You win some, you lose some. That’s a lesson NASCAR drivers know all too well, especially after competing in a sport that is defined by fine margins. Life can be unpredictable as well, as highs and lows are just part of the journey, even though some setbacks hurt more than others. Splitting from a spouse is never easy, but having a positive mindset in the face of adversity makes dealing with hardships so much easier.

That’s exactly what former NASCAR driver Brian Vickers is doing. The 41-year-old shared a heartfelt message on social media, revealing his divorce. However, the North Carolina native also has an exciting update for fans, which is causing a buzz in the stock car racing community.

Brian Vickers is making a digital comeback

Brian Vickers has been through his share of bad luck. The former racer was part of Team Red Bull from 2007 to 2011, but health problems cut his career short. In May 2010, he could not participate in the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway because of blood clots in his legs and around his lungs. He then went on to compete in just one more Cup Series season as a full-time racer in 2014 before retiring in 2016 with just three wins to his name.

Since then, Brian Vickers has disappeared from the NASCAR scene, not being active on social media as well despite being a cult figure amongst fans. However, he recently shared a message on X, writing, “After ten years of marriage and five years under a rock on social media, I’m coming out of digital hiding to share some heavy news: Sarah and I are getting divorced.” He went on to say, “Here’s the good news: You can expect a bit more action out of me in the coming months. I’m back on my digital game and ready to keep ya’ll in the loop again.”

It seems like Vickers is hoping for a fresh start. He shared a quote on social media, which read, “Delete that old version of me in your head, it expired.” Before the recent tweet, the 41-year-old hadn’t used X (formerly known as Twitter) since 2020, highlighting that social media has been far from a priority for the racer. However, with the North Carolina native promising to remain in touch with fans, it’ll be interesting to see what else is going on in his life.

Could Brian Vickers' digital comeback signal a surprise return to NASCAR? What are your thoughts?

Have an interesting take?

At just 41 years old, it’s not entirely beyond the realm of possibility that Brian Vickers could make a one-off NASCAR appearance. That would depend on his health condition. However, the North Carolina native has also been realistic about his circumstances, saying in a 2017 interview with NBC Sports, “I get it, for a car owner or sponsor it’s a hard sell, they’re worried that I’ll have another health issue like in the past.

However, Vickers also expressed his love for the sport in that same interview, saying, “A day doesn’t go by that I don’t think and appreciate what the sport did for me. I do miss it.” While his sentiments might have changed since it has been eight years since this statement, long-time fans can be optimistic as a social media return and an apparent new lease on life could spell hope for a return to racing, too.
