The $324 million pitcher and $360 million captain also maintained a monthly routine of meeting with Hal Steinbrenner during the season to give him an update on the clubhouse. However, Cole mentioned that the discussions didn’t delve deeply into some of the more “philosophical” conversations scheduled for this offseason.

Clearly, the primary problem the team is grappling with is a long list of injured players. Being able to envisage the full potential despite having injuries is the primary target to achieve. Losing Judge and Rizzo in the month of June started a terrible period for the Yankees. Cole did not shy away from giving his opinion.

Addressing the problem of injuries, Cole said, “We should be able to do a better job with those guys not playing… as a group, producing more wins without those guys in the lineup”. This opens the door for a myriad of measures the Yanks can take.

The Yankees organization even contemplated the fact that Cole’s special season could not continue in October. They decided to use the month to assess where they could get better. Leaving no stone unturned, the plan is to use analytics and also take measures to keep players healthy. With that, even Cole can pitch in the postseason in 2024.

Projecting a positive, power-packed next year, Cole said, “We certainly have a lot of horsepower in every department that we have. But we got to get better. They’re going to try to figure out how that is and look at everywhere, I guess, to see how we can elevate our game”.

With these steps being taken, a bright future for the Yankees seems to be kindling.
