You read that right. How else could a manager with 672 regular-season wins and seven playoff berths still be at the center of so much frustration in New York? Sure, his public statements, overprotective treatment of players, and lack of accountability are enough to get on the nerves of the Bronx faithful. However, at the same time, some believe the firing narrative was deliberately steered by the Yankees organization’s inner circle.

The biggest blunder the Yankees’ organization made earlier this year was handing a two-year extension to Boone. The club held an option on him for 2025. Yet instead of waiting to see how this season played out, they doubled down early. In all of baseball, Boone happens to be the fifth longest-tenured skipper.

Christian, co-host of the NYYST Podcast, recently pointed out, “I know there’s people in the organization that don’t want Boone to be manager. I have no inside information on that, but I’ve been around long enough to know that Bill Madden and Joel Sherman don’t start calling for someone’s job without being pushed to do so.” The real issue, as per Christian, is the fact that the ones making the call on his future don’t want to be seen as having been wrong in keeping him.

Pair their costly errors, sloppy baserunning, and mental mistakes, and it’ll turn to their recent stretch of slump. Boone was asked if the Yankees were “running out of time” to fix their issues. He has always tried to stay positive.

“We’re not running out of time. But if we don’t do better, then it’s going to fizzle out. And we’re not going to get where we want to be,” he told MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch. With only 33 games remaining and just 13 of those against winning teams, the Yankees are running out of chances to prove themselves.

If Aaron Judge and co. once again lose to the Red Sox on Sunday, then it will be a four-game series sweep. Something that is bound to invite relentless criticism.
