We live in an era where we time and again witness MLB superstars switching their jerseys and chasing big market contracts. And amidst that era, we have Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who has finally signed the much-awaited contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays. Following his historic 14-year, $500 million deal—the biggest contract in the franchise’s history—Guerrero Jr. just gave the Blue Jays’ nation a reason to breathe easy and cheer louder!
Guerrero Jr. has proven his love for the city of Toronto and the entire Blue Jays nation. As Guerrero puts it, “I’ve never seen this organization as an organization. I see it as a family.” He didn’t just say that for the sake of it; he meant it and has proved it. The possible face of Toronto sports came through on his commitment despite the see-sawing deal talks, where it almost seemed that Canada would let go of its star; “I will do anything, everything I can to stay here because I want to be here“, he said – and boy, was that the truth.
Sealed and packed away, Guerrero Jr. took a moment to record a message for the entire Blue Jays nation. He locked his eyes straight to the camera and stated, “Hello guys, I got a message for you. I’m not leaving!” Yes, his words were heartfelt, but more than anything, they were promising. In the X post, the video was captioned by the Toronto Blue Jays and they simply have to declare one thing: “Save the jersey swaps. Save the articles. Save the cheering for other parks. He’s ours.💥”

The president of the Toronto Blue Jays addressed this moment and said, “Vlad has been part of our Blue Jays family since he was 16 years old and has captured the heart of our city and country.” He emphasized the sense of home grown pride and moreover, that’s exactly why fans are able to deeply resonate with this announcement so much.
Along with being the richest deal in franchise history, it’s also the third largest deal in Major League Baseball. Commencing in 2026, the deal is inclusive of a groundbreaking $325 million signing bonus and is primarily structured to protect against a probable work stoppage in 2027.
According to sources, there will be a formal press conference at Rogers Centre on the upcoming Monday. However, Guerrero Jr. has already said what the fans wanted to hear: he’s home. But elsewhere, things are still up in the air for another Blue Jays player.

Bo Bichette’s potential future with the Blue Jays revealed in a survey
Right after Guerrero Jr. locked in a massive contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays, all sights shifted to Bo Bichette. As it turns out, there are now questions arising about Bichette, who will be hitting the free agency market in 2025.
Both Guerrero Jr. and Bichette made their debut in 2019. And since then, both have held a special place in the heart of the Blue Jays’ lineup. And now that Guerrero Jr. has landed his massive contract, it could be financially challenging for the Blue Jays to keep them both. Although, it does seem like the Blue Jays want to keep Bichette on the roster as well – as one MLB Insider reports.
Former GM-turned-analyst, Jim Bowden mentioned that it’s probable that he could command a remunerative five-year, $147 million contract when he hits free agency. This dilemma has ignited a lot of opinions. MLB Trade Rumors also carried out a poll asking the Blue Jays Nation if Bichette will be a Blue Jay in 2026 or not. As a result, according to over 66% of nearly 5,000 respondents, he will be signing somewhere else once his contract expires.
