If you are a New York Yankees fan, you might be starting to wonder—did the curse of the Bambino find a way to boomerang back to the Bronx? Because that’s what it feels like right now, given that even the Toronto Blue Jays are ahead of the pinstripes! And at the thick of it is none other than Yankee skipper Aaron Boone.

Now, Aaron Boone has been through thick and thin. Everyone saw him watch as the Dodgers celebrated champagne-soaked moments after they brushed the Yankees aside brutally in the World Series. Boone had to watch his team fall short again and walked away. What’s crazy is that last season was their best chance to win! That loss is a snapshot that no Yankee fans can get their head out of.

Under Aaron Boone’s leadership since 2018, New York sure has been good. In fact, “really,” they have made their way to the playoffs in six of their seven seasons and racked up plenty of wins. But being “really good” is not the New York Yankee standard. Not a team’s image, which was called the “evil empire of baseball,” is it? Moreover, not when you have not raised a World Series banner since 2009.

And now in 2025, with a team built around generational talent like Aaron Judge, anything less than a ring would be a huge letdown. Boone’s once laid-back earned him the praise, but now it’s irking people. The team, for many, looks mismanaged and flat, with some even saying players look disinterested. So, fans are voicing their displeasure. But what’s surprising is that now even the legends are.

Derek Jeter, who rarely speaks about anything controversial, spoke up clearly. During the All-Star Game, the ex-Yankee captain said, “Cashman said that he’s all in. So I expect the Yankees to do something at the trade deadline.” The fact that he mentioned “to do something” just shows that he thinks the team is doing nothing or not enough. Ouch!

Then, just a few days later, even A-Rod voiced his opinions on the Michael Kay Show. He openly criticized the Yankee decision-making. “This is all to do with the construction of the roster. And the price you pay for missing Harper, Machado, Bregman… It’s costly.” And he is not wrong; fans are starting to echo their frustrations, and this is where both of them come in. So the question is, could neither of them be in line for the bigger role in the team?

Well, it is not as crazy as it sounds!

See, Jeter has already had front office experience with the Miami Marlins. He brought a strong culture-first approach to baseball ops. A-Rod, meanwhile, is one of the sharpest sports analysts in the game right now. He is opinionated and strategic and not afraid to ruffle some feathers. Some fans are even fantasizing about a wild power duo—Jeter as GM and A-Rod as manager.

What’s your perspective on:

Should Derek Jeter and A-Rod take over the Yankees to restore their former glory?

Have an interesting take?

Sure, it does sound like a movie script, but if Boston could move Alex Cora out of a broadcast booth, and that seems to be working well enough, is it far-fetched? Now Boone has time, but the fingers are pointing without any mercy. And now, it does seem like Boone, who is usually very calm and composed, has started to lose his cool.

Aaron Boone loses his cool as Yankees keep falling apart.

Aaron Boone’s patience has finally cracked! He went berserk at the Talking Yanks podcast, which is a rare sight to see, isn’t it? The skipper is usually calm and composed. But when Jomboy brought the team’s energy, or rather, lifeless energy, on the field, Boone lost it. “Understand the pestering, bantering, leading questions that are being asked of our guys. And I don’t want them to just fly off the handle and be emotional. We’ve been pretty good over the years of compartmentalizing and dealing with the everyday grind of the regular season and playing in New York, and you start getting emotional and going down that road, it’s a bad trait.”

Boone also mentioned, “They’re not robots,” clearly frustrated. But it didn’t stop there. When Jomboy pressed that fans were bored of watching the team look flat, Boone went. “I don’t care what you want.” Yikes! This kind of outburst tells you everything you need to know—Boone is feeling the pressure and the New York Yankees. But the question one should ask is what has triggered this sudden outburst? Well, it should be the 4-1 defeat at the hands of the Blue Jays in Toronto. It was not just any loss; it came with four errors, sloppy players, and the kind of energy that screamed, “bleh.”  But guess what Boone said when asked about the team’s performance? “We’re a very good defensive team,” said Boone. And that has left many bamboozled. Because the numbers say otherwise, right? In seven games at the Rogers Center this season, they did this—

  1. Racked up 11 errors
  2. Coughed up eight unearned runs
  3. Toronto won six of seven games.

Hence, this is not a bad stretch; it is a pattern. Boone tried to lessen the depth of the situation, but fans are not buying it. He came under fire after he supported Anthony Volpe for his gameplay. This is because his share of hiccups can be attributed to the loss. Now, stat-wise, it is weird. Defensive Runs Saved ranks them in the top 10. But Outs Above Average? Not so good.

Boone is trying to keep his players motivated, and it’s understandable. But when bad luck starts looking like bad baseball, fans start demanding more than just belief. They want results, and maybe they are not robots, but they also do not look like a team that’s right now building for October.
