To everyone’s surprise, two former Houston Astros teammates owned up this week and gave Houston the reminder they didn’t ask for. As it turns out, this week, Major League Baseball saw two renowned names at the top delivering impressive numbers. Not easy to ignore.

Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker—the ones who were once the heart of Houston—have been named AL and NL players of the week, respectively.

Congratulations are in order, sure, but for the Houston Astros’ nation, it was an announcement that made them scroll back and re-read the headline until they could process it.

Interestingly, both Tucker and Bregman spent 7 years playing for the Astros before they departed for the off-season. Bregman has won two World Series titles in Houston’s colors. Now, he’s the pride of the Boston Red Sox since he signed a three-year, $120 million contract with them during free agency and has put up remarkable numbers. 11-for-27 with five doubles, two homers, and 10 RBIs.

On the other hand, Tucker was traded to the Chicago Cubs in December 2024, as the Houston Astros’ front office denied him a massive contract extension. Before his trade, he had won three all-star selections back-to-back and a Gold Glove award in 2022 with the Astros. And now, with the Cubs, he’s topping the headlines with 9-for-23, 11 runs, 3 home runs, and 8 RBIs.

That isn’t the real shocker. Apparently, MLB just had to make the player of the week announcement, and the Houston Astros fans did the rest. Oddly enough, it didn’t sit well with them that the Houston Astros had let both of them go. They have blown up the internet trolling Houston in every possible way. From subtle to not-so-subtle jabs, they have expressed it all.

What’s your perspective on:

Did the Astros make the biggest blunder by letting Bregman and Tucker slip through their fingers?

Astros’ fanbase reacts with endless trolling

Just as the news dropped of Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker being named as Players of the Week, it stunned the Astros’ fanbase. They downright blamed Houston for letting them go. Frustrations were vented out, followed by humor, disbelief, and disappointment.

Witnessing two former Astros teammates winning in different uniforms was nearly unacceptable for many. It’s safe to say that the fans are just trying to cover up their pain with humor. We get it; it isn’t easy to watch your favorite player from your favorite team dominate somewhere else.

So, of course, questions were raised about the Astros’ front office and how poorly they handled the offseason spending. According to fans, the front office could have done something more to preserve their stars.

Losing one was already disastrous, but losing them both? That’s where the patience wore off. If they could simply retain one of them, it might have softened the blow.

One fan even pointed out how unimaginable it would be if this player of the week announcement were made one year ago with the same names. Fair enough; same time last year, both Bregman and Tucker were the heart of the Houston Astros, and it did seem like it would be a long-term deal.

Others didn’t sugarcoat their sarcasm and disappointment, both in one simple expression. While fans’ dramatic anxiety is loud and clear here, it won’t stop Bregman and Tucker from celebrating the title. And well, as it seems, for the time being, the Houston Astros will be getting roasted. After all, according to fans, they didn’t do enough to keep their stars.
