Baseball is America’s favorite pastime – how long has this phrase been popular? For decades and centuries, perhaps? People have tuned in to watch their favorite teams battle it out on the diamond for many years. But back then, life used to be slower and simpler. Today, everything is fast-paced and people’s attention spans are limited. Not only that, but interest in baseball is rapidly declining according to various studies. And to counter that, MLB has introduced some measures this year.

In an effort to make the games shorter, a pitch clock will grace every field. In addition, players will need to be alert to their surroundings. Spring training has given everyone an idea of what this new version of baseball will look like. Some have already made mistakes that cost their teams but that just means they’ll be more careful from now on. And if any fans haven’t caught up to the news yet, MLB is making sure to spread the information through fun commercials.

Nestor Cortes Jr. and Jose Trevino star in an entertaining MLB ad

Opening Day is almost upon us. To inform the fans of the rule changes, MLB took some help from a few stars from Hollywood and baseball alike. Nestor Cortes Jr. and Jose Trevino of the New York Yankees star in one commercial. The Yankees’ official page shared the clip with the caption, “Seems like @Cortes_1210 and @HipHipJose5 were both up to speed today 😉”

The two players are seen working out at the gym. While Trevino runs on the treadmill at his set pace, the pitcher comes in and tries to increase his speed. “That new pitch timer this season, it’s going to make the game quick. It affects you too,” Cortes Jr. tells Trevino. Who answers back, “I’m a catcher. I just throw the ball back.”

Let’s be honest, not everyone can be a pro at everything. The Yankees players are excellent at what they do on the field, even if their skills in front of a camera are not the best. To their credit, the Yankee players gave it their all.
