“Cardinals fan dangerously hangs off upper deck ledge in terrifying scene,” New York Post Sports shared via X.
Per the NY Post, Instagram user Oliver Stoffel took the scary video. The home crowd was already upset because the Brewers’ Jackson Chourio was crushing Cardinals pitching in a 6-2 Milwaukee win. But the game did not matter when fans noticed a man in a blue t-shirt sitting on the upper deck railing in the 200-level section, already having a conversation with an old Cardinals fan.
“Oh, my God,” a fan was heard screaming in the background, while the audience around 200s were seemingly requesting him to back off.
Holding our breaths before tragedy hit, a good Samaritan appeared from behind. A fan wearing a red Cardinals hat and a blue jacket walked up behind the dangling man and grabbed him tightly.
Shocked, the man tried to fight getting pulled back. Meanwhile, several others joined in to hold down the blue tee video, but he kept swinging punches. He even hit one fan in the face.
But what we saw was how humanity won when the crowd finally overpowered to calm the man down and keep him safe.
While a tragedy was averted, a few questions are still unanswered.

Was the fan dangling by accident or seeking attention? Why was he fighting it back and even seen hitting someone for saving him? As we look for answers, which felt like he was going through something, talks of the lack of security surfaced again.
Just this Monday, a 27-year-old Arrin Jones was stabbed to death, reportedly by his 65-year-old supervisor, outside Busch Stadium. And it was his workplace, contracted to clean up after baseball games. The incident happened just hours after the Cardinals vs Dodgers game on Sunday night. While the man was arrested, no charges have been filed.
Busch Stadium has a capacity of around 44,000, but no security was visible even during the Wednesday incident, aside from the fans themselves.
“Is there security up there?” one fan was heard in the background.
This incident forced us to recall another similar tragedy from last year.
A 20-year-old fan, Kavan Markwood, fell 21 feet from the right-field bleachers onto the warning track at PNC Park during a Pirates game. The incident left him in critical condition with a broken back, neck, and ribs.
Fortunately, nothing like that happened this time, but the security question remains.
The Cardinals’ on-field performance adds to fan frustration
Reacting to the incident at Busch Stadium, one fan wrote, “Probably was tired of that pathetic outing today from the Cardinals as a whole.”
The team holds a solid 21-15 record and sits near the top of their division. Still, Wednesday’s game gave St. Louis fans nothing to cheer about.
Apart from Nolan Gorman and Victor Scott II, no one from the Cardinals could score a run against the Brewers. On the pitching side, Andre Pallante started the game for the Cards and gave up 5 ERs and secured just 3 SOs. The Cardinals were limited to four hits while striking out nine times. And the worst part is their injuries.
Lars Nootbaar is recovering from surgery on both heels and is currently in a 60-day IL. He is expected to start a minor league practice assignment around May 10, with hopes of returning to the lineup in early June.
Ramón Urías is placed on the IL on May 5 with right elbow lateral epicondylitis. He will be shut down for multiple weeks. Matt Pushard is dealing with right knee patellar tendinitis and is currently on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis.
With so many active names sidelined, the Cardinals are performing just as expected. For fans, things are only getting tougher.
