Time and again, it’s the little gestures during the game that stick with you more than the scoreboard does. These moments often sneak up subtly and catch you by surprise. Something just like that unfolded at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday—a moment that will stay with us throughout the rest of the week. Right after a tough extra-inning matchup between the Kansas City Royals and Colorado Rockies, what followed was so lively, subtle, and heartwarming that it turned the usual victory ritual into a memorable moment. At the heart of it all were the Royals’ $288 million star and his teammates.

After the game, when Bobby Witt Jr. and Tyler Tolbert were fresh off their 4-3 victory against the Rockies, they would have typically celebrated and walked off. That’s usually the routine—a celebratory postgame splash after a win. But Witt Jr. had a message in mind for the teammate he had just drenched.

During the game, when the Royals somehow lost the lead in the ninth inning, Freddy Fermin came to the rescue as a pinch runner and scored the much-needed tying run. In the top of the 10th inning, Fermin tagged out the Rockies’ Mickey Moniak at third base. Then came the 11th inning, and the odds were in the Royals’ favor as Fermin won the game with an RBI single.

Now you know why Ferman was drenched by Witt Jr. and Tolbert with a massive QT cup. During the interview with Joel Goldberg from FanDuel Sports Kansas City, Fermin emphasized how he’s always ready to play. That’s when Witt Jr. subtly told him, “Hey, tell everyone thank you for staying.” And he definitely did. He returned to the mic and added, “Like I said, really good game, and the crowd, thanks for staying today. We appreciate that.”

Usually, hot mics catch something someone will regret later. But this time, it was purely heartwarming. Fans couldn’t help but melt down over this gesture. They were in awe and flooded social media with ‘love Bobby’ comments.

It’s rare to witness a game so tightly packed with intensity, yet it ends with such a beautiful hot mic moment. Witt Jr. effortlessly won the hearts of everyone present and even the ones who weren’t. He’s a lot like a Marvel superhero—can you guess which one?

Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr.’s top choice: Spider-Man

Things got a whole lot more interesting in the Royals’ clubhouse. For our infield duo of Witt Jr. and Maikel Garcia, Spider-Man is a favorite Marvel superhero. Not just that, Witt Jr. also shares some visible physical alikeness to Spider-Man. He began his career as a young player for the Royals and took some time to find his footing. Initially, during his rookie season, he made some defensive errors at third base, but he never backed away from improving his craft.

He always focused on refining his game and skill set, and eventually became an integral part of the Royals’ offense. Now, he is easily the key piece of the team, much like Spider-Man to the Marvels. Let’s hear it from the man himself.

As Witt Jr. admits, “I really liked Spider-Man and my nephew really likes Spider-Man,”. He continued, “He was someone cool and he was always kind of saving everyone. But no one knew who he was and he was just kind of doing his thing.”  The Spider-Man character definitely holds some serious resemblance with Witt Jr.

In fact, in the recent matchup against the Colorado Rockies, he helped the Kansas City Royals with a 7-4 victory by hitting a double and scoring a run. In his last outings, he hit .308 along with 3 doubles and a home run. The way he saves the day for his teammates and the Royals makes him so much like his favourite character. Time and again, he’s delivered for his team without seeking recognition.
