For Patrick Mahomes, the expectations are always sky-high. While we have seen him leading the Kansas City Chiefs to Super Bowl titles, the dream came to a halt at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles this year. But Mahomes has already shifted focus to the next chapter, cheering on his alma mater, Texas Tech.
On Monday night, that same passion showed in a diamond as he celebrated a major win for Texas Tech. It was their softball team that pulled off a stunning upset over powerhouse Oklahoma. And Mahomes was quick to jump out of his seat. Yes, his Red Raider pride still runs deep.
Even after reaching the peak of NFL, Mahomes still has a deep love for the Red Raiders. He shows up to Texas Tech games whenever he can. Remember, earlier this year, he caught the men’s basketball team in the NCAA Tournament? And even when he’s not on the field, you can always understand his competitive drive.

However, this time, Mahomes has more reasons to celebrate. Texas Tech’s latest win not only got them one step closer to the WCW Championship but also scripted a new history. Oklahoma had been chasing an unprecedented fifth straight national title. But in walk-off fashion, Texas Tech ended that dream, and with it, the most dominant dynasty the sport has ever seen.
Well, eliminating Oklahoma from the WCW scene for the first time in the last 4 years is nothing short of a dream. Texas Tech’s 3-2 win on Monday night ended the dynasty and assured Texas’s ticket to the WCW finals for the first time.
That’s enough for Mahomes to be over the moon. And his X post clearly sums it up!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHH LETS GOOOO!!!!!!!! @TexasTechSB

Have an interesting take?
Down 2-0 and just one strike away from elimination, Oklahoma (52-9) got a lifeline when Abigale Dayton crushed a game-tying two-run homer. But Texas Tech made a comeback when Mihyia Davis singled with one out, and Hailey Toney followed with a double. And here came the moment!
It was a fly ball by Kailey Allred that Oklahoma’s Sydney Barker made an off-target throw. Davis made no mistake and crossed the plate with ease, sealing a stunning upset.
Texas Tech’s triumph this year is a result of their long-term strategy that they hinted at earlier this year.
Texas Tech created history even before the season started
It’s a year to remember for Texas Tech softball as their breakout year, and it’s no coincidence. They hinted at their championship goal earlier this year when they went for National Pitcher of the Year NiJaree Canady. The one-year, $1,050,024 NIL contract was record-breaking and showed how desperate they are to get the WCW title home.
Well, things seem like paying off.

The program’s rise has gone hand-in-hand with a major investment in a truly unique talent. After a decorated two-year run at Stanford, where Canady racked up honors like Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, First Team All-American, and USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, she made an immediate impact in her first season with the Red Raiders.
The record-breaking deal made Canady the first millionaire player from college softball and shows the intent of Texas Tech. Amid her successful stint with Stanford, no one would have expected her to jump ship. But she did… Now, we can all see how her new team is rewriting history!
So, now Canady helped Texas Tech reach the Women’s College World Series for the first time in school history. Moreover, her dominance is clear on both sides of the ball. She leads the chart with a 0.89 ERA and ranks among the Big 12’s top 10 in slugging percentage (.667) and OPS (1.124) this season.
