The confirmation is finally here. The New York Yankees have just announced their deal with the star pitcher and two-time All-Star Marcus Stroman. After initial hiccups, both parties were quick to strike a deal with each other.

The Pinstripes have announced that the contract is for one year with a conditional player option to extend it to 2026 as well. To make space for Marcus Stroman in the 40-man roster, the Bombers had to designate Outfielder Oscar Gonzalez for assignment. With this, the Yankees’  lineup has finally gotten its final piece.

This deal could benefit both the Pinstripes and Stroman. While the Bronx Bombers are getting a low-risk and relatively low-cost addition to their rotation, Stroman gets to return to New York, a place where he became a superstar. But the Yankees had to designate OF Oscar Gonzalez for Stroman.

Gonzalez had made a name for himself with the Cleveland Guardians, but the player failed to recreate his form with the Pinstripes. With the Yankees currently quite strong in the outfield, Gonzalez’s exit is not surprising.

Ever since the New York Yankees gave away most of their pitching staff for a Juan Soto trade, they’ve been desperate for a pitcher. Also, their rotation had massively underperformed in 2023, so an addition had become a must. First, they tried with Yoshinobu Yamamoto, then gave a $150 million offer to Blake Snell.

But when all else failed, they found a ray of hope in Marcus Stroman. Though initially it was reported that the Bronx squad wasn’t interested, things changed when GM Brian Cashman privately met Stroman in Tampa.

The Stroman links grew strong, and within a few days, reports emerged that the Pinstripes had struck a two-year, $37 million deal with the pitcher. Fans still awaited the final announcement to get the complete picture of this deal. So it has become clear that the deal is for one year with an option to extend it for another.

 The biggest question, however, is: after signing Stroman, is the offseason of the Yankees officially over? With the team nearing the $300 million mark in payroll, are there more free-agent deals remaining for the team?
