But the judge cut through all that, questioning why the theft occurred even when a huge amount of money was with him. Left without answers, Ippei Mizuhara and his defense went silent. This case had many twists. The defendant, Ippei Mizuhara’s team argued for leniency, highlighting his gambling addictions since his teens and his immediate guilty plea. After this, Mizuhara also remorsed, stating that he would get rid of his gambling addictions, and apologized to Ohatni and his own family, and the Los Angeles Dodgers. But throughout the trial, the judge couldn’t buy Mizuhara’s gambling addiction narrative.

The defendants had answers and excuses for everything but one. When the judge asked, “Why did you steal money from Ohtani in the first place when you had the money in your own account?” This led to the defense’s reply, “I don’t have an answer for that.” Do you think that’s a justified answer?
