This time, Sydney Sweeney’s the one catching heat for supposedly jinxing Game 4 after the Dodgers fell 6–2. But why the blame game? It might have something to do with an incident from three years ago that fans haven’t quite forgotten. So, after the Dodgers’ 6–2 loss, fans have found someone to blame, and it’s Sydney Sweeney.

Back in July 2022, Sweeney threw out the ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park when the Red Sox faced the Blue Jays. Notably, she wore a Red Sox jersey for the occasion, but her support didn’t exactly bring luck. In fact, the game turned into a nightmare for Boston as the Blue Jays crushed them 28–5, setting franchise records for most runs in a game (28), most hits (29), and most runs in a single inning (11).

Fast-forward to tonight… Sweeney showed up in a Dodgers jersey, and once again, the team she backed lost. So now, Dodgers fans are convinced she’s a jinx. While the Blue Jays tying the series should be the main storyline, fans can’t stop talking about Sweeney’s supposed bad-luck streak. And judging by the social media chatter, they’re having a field day with it.

Well, Dodgers fans going after a celebrity, accusing them of jinxing, is nothing new. Back in April this year, after the Dodgers’ first loss of the season, several fans joked that LeBron James wearing a Dodgers jersey must have somehow jinxed the team. The same is now happening with Sweeney. “Plz stop coming to the games, another jinx we don’t need,” one fan said. “Ah, makes sense, bad energy in the stadium today,” added another.

However, is losing a game that is still not a series decider the only reason fans hate her? No, there might be more to it.

Recently, Sydney Sweeney also found herself in hot water over a controversial jeans ad. Reportedly, the campaign tried to be clever with a play on the words “genes” and “jeans,” but many Americans weren’t amused. Critics argued the ad’s wordplay, paired with its hypersexualized imagery of Sweeney, felt uncomfortably close to referencing eugenics.

So, heading into tonight’s game, Sweeney was already facing backlash, and the Dodgers’ loss just added fuel to the fire for frustrated fans.
