When your dad is Big Papi, the pressure to live up to that legendary Red Sox legacy is real, but D’Angelo Ortiz seems to be handling it just fine. Well, you know what they say about an apple not falling far from the tree? The 21-year-old first baseman just earned himself a sweet promotion in the Boston Red Sox system, and honestly, it’s giving us all the feels about baseball dynasties.

Want to guess what happens when talent meets hard work? D’Angelo Ortiz found out Wednesday when he got the call-up from the Florida Complex League Red Sox to Low-A Salem. TBH, it makes sense when you look at his numbers – the kid posted a ridiculous .273/.384/.689 slash line over 51 games. That’s some serious production right there, splitting time between first base (38 starts) and third base (13 starts). Not bad for a 19th-round pick (567th overall) from the 2024 MLB Draft, who officially signed just last July.

But here’s where it gets heartwarming – his sister Alexandra Ortiz took to Instagram with the sweetest message that’ll probably make you tear up a bit. “DOL GOT PROMOTED! His timing is always right. It takes a lot to be here. So here you go, kid, nothing for granted. Be immensely proud of the head you got on your shoulders. I’m so grateful for your mentality on and off the field,” she wrote, sharing the Red Sox Minor League Baseball Instagram post on her story. Well, you know sibling support hits differently when it comes from the heart like that.

The organization’s faith in him extends beyond his famous last name as well. Amateur scouting director Devin Pearson made that crystal clear: “It means a lot to the organization, but I want to make it clear that D’Angelo is a prospect. The reason we selected him is the result of a relationship that our area scout (Willie Romay) has had with the player for a long time. We had him at a workout recently and got to interact with him. It felt like it was a good addition to the organization. It’s a plus that his dad is David Ortiz, but we drafted him as a prospect.” With that kind of organizational backing and family support system behind him, this promotion to Salem feels like just the beginning of what could be an exciting climb through the ranks.

D’angelo and Alex Ortiz prove Red Sox legacy goes beyond baseball.

Speaking of that family support system, the Ortiz siblings know how to make statements both on and off the field. D’Angelo Ortiz recently took to social media with a message that melted hearts everywhere: “Happy birthday to the best sister in the world @official_v3da love u.” Well, you know what they say about actions speaking louder than words – but sometimes the perfect words hit just as hard as a Big Papi home run.
