The Bronx Bombers are struggling and they are struggling big time! On Wednesday, July 23, it was the last game of the series in Toronto. And they lost it again by  8–4. Reason? Well, the errors, and this time it’s not one or two, but four errors. Fans are not happy, and quite naturally, the skipper Aaron Boone is on their radar again.

The Yankees’ errors immediately led to Toronto’s scoring spree. It began with a wild throw by starting pitcher Max Fried, allowing two runs to be scored in the fifth inning. Later, Cody Bellinger lost a fly ball in the twilight, leading to a crucial triple that set up the go-ahead run. First baseman Ben Rice then compounded the issues by booting a grounder, costing another run. Jasson Domínguez also added to the error tally with a misplay in left field that paved the way for a two-run homer.

This string of defensive blunders left the fans angry, and on top of that, Boone’s post-game comment just made it worse. When asked about the errors, the skipper said, “Look, I think we have a very good defensive club,” before adding, “But clearly in the seven games we’ve played up here, you know, not giving them extra outs, whether it’s through error or not making a play that we need to make, you know, that’s cost us.”

Well, the errors have indeed cost the Yanks. And the players are well aware of it! Even Bellinger, who is normally a steady presence, said, “I lost it in the sky once it got above the lights, and was trying to guess where it was going to be,” he said. “Today was a little shaky. Really, for me, it felt like the fly ball that I missed started it all. We’ve got to play a little better.”

So, what’s the plan now? Boone reflected on it, saying, “We’ve got to, obviously, tighten it up. We’ll continue to work at it. We have good defenders here, but tonight was obviously a rough night for us.” But the fans are no longer taking his assurances.

Fans explode over Aaron Boone’s statement

A blunt declaration came from one of the fans: “He needs to be fired. He isn’t a serious person. He’s a terrible manager.” Well, it’s a growing perception among the Yankees supporters that Boone is not the right man for the job. And the fact that he called the team a good defensive unit after these four errors only added to the fans’ frustration.

The sarcasm was quite evident in the other responses. “Yeah, and Volpe is the best shortstop in the league,” read a comment. Boone’s responses, despite clear issues with the team, haven’t amused the fans. Someone like Anthony Volpe has made 12 errors this season, but Boone hasn’t shied away from defending him as well.

“WOW… he should be fired just for saying that. Or maybe checked for a concussion,” wrote another fan. Now, that’s harsh. But what the fan implies here is Boone’s out of touch with reality. One X user, in the meantime, provided a creative solution: “@Yankees put him on the IL for next 4 years.” That’s hilarious, but it also shows how fed up the fans are.

A netizen even sensed “gaslighting” in Boone’s statements. Fans feel they’re being spun when they hear 11 errors in 7 games are not panic-inducing. The Yanks manager must turn the tables fast, because with every loss, the fans’ patience is running thin and they aren’t holding back at all!
