The Boston Red Sox, once known for winning the World Series, are currently at the bottom of the AL East, barely ahead of the Baltimore Orioles. A squad that used to be at the top is now hanging by a thread. What happened? A confusing “position mess” from the start of the season. What did the front office say? Manager Alex Cora’s most recent comment has sent off a firestorm of anger among fans.

Alex Cora is now at the center of this growing dispute. The person behind the great 2018 World Series win is now under a microscope. Every mistake, strange lineup pick, and unclear explanation appeared to diminish the goodwill he had built over the years. And he has given enough reasons!

From the 3B drama and then the 1B chaos. And the only player in the middle of it is Rafael Devers.

This time, a video showed Devers taking grounders in the infield before the Red Sox’s May 2-4 series against the Angels at Fenway Park. Fans were surprised. Since the series in Toronto from April 29–May 1, this was the first time Devers had taken grounders in warmups before a game. Everyone had a question in their mind: Is something else cooking now? And who else can give a better answer than the man in charge?

But Alex Cora was clueless when asked about it. Rather, his reply sent shockwaves. “I had no idea (that was happening).”  Tbh, that’s a little weird!

The team manager, who is supposed to know how his players are feeling and what his team is doing strategically, allegedly had no idea of a big pregame event involving his most important player. This unexpected find seemed to validate the worst suspicions of a fan following that was already on the verge of giving up.

But everything aside, looking at the video, Devers wasn’t taking grounders. He was wearing a glove that was too small for the session. This glove is usually utilized for casual drills or perhaps as a prop, not real defensive preparation.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Alex Cora's leadership the real issue, or is the Red Sox's front office to blame?

Have an interesting take?

Still, this has been an unsettling discovery, raising doubts about top-level communication. And Cora’s ignorance just added another layer to it.

When the Red Sox needed a new first baseman because Triston Casas was hurt and couldn’t play anymore, Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow, not Cora, asked Devers if he would be willing to move positions. Chris Cotillo of MassLive said, “Initially, it was Breslow — and not Cora — who approached Devers about potentially moving to first base, which led to some questions about communication within the organization.”

The doubts are already there, and Alex Cora’s recent comment is just working like oil in a slow-burning fire.

Echoes of frustration: The Red Sox fanbase reacts

Alex Cora is known for his straightforward answers and for not worrying much. Guess what? The Red Sox fans are also on the same page when it comes to giving direct answers.

A comment read, “Worst manager ever.” It’s very clear that fans are not happy with Cora’s leadership, and have plenty of good reasons, too. The loss of games, poor decision-making, and position shifts. Undoubtedly, he led the team into the championship, but what about the current scenario?

Thinking, people were unhappy with Cora only? Nope, you have got it wrong. It’s for the whole management, showing that problems go beyond just the manager. “The team’s back office is 100% unserious. This team’s front office is 100% out-of-touch.” Fans think that the team’s leaders don’t understand what’s going on and aren’t making decisions that are in the team’s best interest. And if that’s so, blaming Cora solely doesn’t seem fair!

A biting remark with a blend of sarcasm. “That’s why your team is in last place no idea why🤣🤣🤣.” A team that is used to being in the top running is now stuck! Be it on the field or in the table standings. The record of 29-33 is not something to be very proud of. And they must look for solutions before it gets late!

Fenway Park, once filled with cheers, is now surrounded by challenges. “This team is a laughingstock.” The team’s present performance has embarrassed and disappointed fans. And it looks even worse after their most recent loss against the Los Angeles Angels by 6-7. Can they recover in the upcoming game?

There’s no denying that the Red Sox’s internal dynamics are under the radar. One noticeable issue is that instead of the manager, the chief of baseball operations is asking for a position change, which is questionable. And it has rung a bell in the minds of many. Singing with that, a comment read, “That’s cuz Craig knew.” Is this limited to just the communication gap, or is the leadership also an area where the Red Sox are lacking?
