It’s been a standout week for Alex Bregman! After signing a three-year, $120 million contract with the Red Sox in February, Breggy was anticipated to return to his best. Well, his play against the Bay Rays, going 5-for-5 with two home runs and four RBIs, leading the Red Sox to a 7–4 victory, did prove that anticipation correct. However, it is now reported that Bregman is set to miss the next game.

The Red Sox were going 9-9 after their loss to the Bay Rays in the series’ first game. It was the 5-star performance by Bregman yesterday that got the better of the Rays in game 2, and now, they are standing at 9-10. However, Bregman’s performance was expected considering his contract, and it couldn’t have come at a better time – after all, look at the team’s recent woeful run. But now, as it seems, Boston will have to get used to playing without A-Breg for a while.

According to reports by MLB insider Ian Browne, “Alex Bregman won’t play tomorrow. He will fly back to Boston for the birth of his second child.

Reportedly, the team is placing Bregman on the paternity list starting today. This will let him miss up to 3 games. But let’s face it: Sometimes, some personal moments are bigger than your professional space.

Alex Bregman and his wife, Reagan Elizabeth, are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their second child. The happy family picture was evident when Reagan shared a heartwarming photo of their first child, Knox, holding a sonogram picture of his baby brother, accompanied by the caption “Hi little bro. And Knox’s adorable reaction won hearts.

But in the meantime, we cannot help but wonder what a massive gap A-Breg’s absence might leave for the team.

Alex Bregman is off to a strong start in the 2025 MLB season with the Red Sox. Through 16 games, he has been performing notably well. This includes 3 homers and 10 RBIs with a .293 BA. These numbers reflect a solid offensive contribution, especially considering Fenway Park’s hitter-friendly environment. This was expected to benefit Bregman’s power-hitting style, and well, it did. Yesterday, he went 5-for-5, and what’s wild is that four of those hits were RBI knocks, showing just how locked in he was with runners on.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Bregman's decision to miss games for family a sign of changing priorities in sports?

Have an interesting take?

That kind of performance isn’t just padding stats — it’s carrying a lineup.

Now, while Bregman is about to miss the next game against the Tampa Bay Rays, it would be interesting to watch how the team fills his void. Undoubtedly, their depth will be tested as they continue their series against the Rays.

The Red Sox are scrambling for options to replace Bregman

Reportedly, the Red Sox are calling up infielder Nick Sogard to temporarily fill Bregman’s spot on the active roster for Wednesday’s series finale against the Rays. Bregman’s been red-hot lately (coming off that massive 5-for-5 game), so yes, his bat will be missed. However, it’s cool to see the team giving him the space to be there for a moment of a lifetime that’s bigger than baseball. And for Sogard, it’s a golden opportunity to show what he can do on the big stage.

Well, Sogard has been performing well at Triple-A Worcester in 2025. In 89 games, he has a batting average of .279, with 12 homers, 54 RBIs, and 10 SBs. His versatility allows him to play multiple infield positions, including second base, shortstop, and third base. Therefore, adds depth to the Red Sox’s roster.

So, will he play at 3B or anywhere else? While Sogard is expected to provide depth and flexibility during Bregman’s absence, the Red Sox have not specified whether he will start in Bregman’s usual position at third base or if other infielders will be adjusted accordingly.

And all of these remind us of Rafael Devers’ strong contention for 3B! So, would the fans witness the return of Devers to the third following Bregman’s leave? Well, it’s unlikely now. Because Sogard is expected to cover infield duties, allowing Devers to maintain his role as designated hitter.
