The 2020 Tokyo Olympics saw some enticing contests between swimmers of the highest caliber. Significantly, the breathtaking clash between Ariarne Titmus and Katie Ledecky was the most anticipated race this year. Titmus won two gold medals in the 200 and 400-meters freestyle, while Ledecky won her signature gold medals in both the 800 and 1500-meter races.

The 400-meters freestyle competition was one of the best races in recent memory. Thus, after her successful performances in Tokyo, the swimmer is still enjoying the fruits of her labor. Notably, she hasn’t swum since.

The 21-year-old swimmer triumphed in Japan, defeating the phenomenal Katie Ledecky in the swimming competitions. Notably, the 2019 World Championships saw the end of Ledecky’s reign in this event, with Ariarna emerging as the new favorite to win the competitions.

Thus, Titmus now wants to cut back on the ferocious battles, relax a bit and enjoy life away from the pool. Ecstatically, she spoke about how she does a lot of other activities apart from swimming.

“I haven’t done any laps, and I’ve got another two weeks before I head into training,” she said.

“This is the first time in my life I’ve focused on things other than swimming and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve enjoyed having that extra glass of wine and not worrying what time I’m going to bed because I have to get up early to train,” said Titmus.

Tight schedule

Despite the Olympics being done and dusted now, the swimming schedule remains a stressful one. With the International Swimming League around the corner, Titmus has confirmed that she won’t take part in this year’s event.

The tight schedule remains a matter of concern, with debates over inadequate rest time on the rise. Due to back-to-back competitions, the recovery time for athletes has reduced, as even coaches have begun to address the issue.

In their quest for Olympic glory, many athletes are back to full training, preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, Ariarne Titmus is enjoying her sabbatical currently but will surely have one eye on Paris.
