This UFC fight week is all about Dustin Poirier and his retirement fight, as he gears up for one “last dance” against Max Holloway. However, during the weigh-in show, it was Joe Rogan’s comedian buddy, Theo Von, who really took the spotlight. A successful artist with a net worth of about $5 million, the star comedian rubbed shoulders with legends like Chris Weidman and Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier, among others, at the UFC 318 Weigh-In Show. You won’t believe this! Von cracked some funny jokes about the food in Louisiana, especially since Poirier is heading back to his home state for a fight after ten years.
Every city has its own culture, and so does the capital of Louisiana, New Orleans. The city is a blend of many cultures, with great music and lively festivals. However, Theo Von doesn’t seem too fond of the food in Dustin Poirier’s home state, especially in New Orleans, claiming it to be a bit too salty. Well, seafood is a prominent dish here, so maybe he doesn’t entertain such dishes. After all, he’s from Louisiana as well. But what caught the whole broadcast panel off guard was Von’s take on salty food leading people to get arthritic issues.
“Look, dude, the salt intake is so bad here. I don’t know if people are even going to get a punch off, you know what I’m saying? This is gout nation. We’re in the gout belt,” said Theo Von, claiming that the food could act as a hindrance for fighters to perform this weekend. “We are in the gout belt. You’re going to see luck. If you hear an elbow bend out there, it’s going to be beautiful.”

Chris Weidman appeared to be noticing Daniel Cormier‘s reaction to Theo Von’s comments since he’s from Louisiana, much like Dustin Poirier. Well, the star comedian then turned his attention to ‘DC’ and would take a hilarious jibe at the former double champion, who loves to eat. “DC definitely. His woo bracelet gave up. His woo bracelet is like, it mailed itself back to the company. It’s like, ‘Hold on. You didn’t tell me I had to do this,'” Von added.

As Poirier read it out loud, he asked the interviewer, “Why are you guys doing this to me, bro? I don’t want to get to the feels, like, right now, man.” He’s just not ready to think about the aftermath now. It’s the fight that matters now. Theo Von’s message read: “It’s been a gift when you didn’t get the victory… You never quit; you readjust. You recalibrate. You believe in yourself and walk back into the fire of life. Because you do that, it helps us all do that.”
It was a show of heartfelt gratitude from Theo Von to Dustin Poirier, which he thoroughly deserves. As he prepares to end his career this weekend, it will be interesting to see if he takes the BMF belt with him, which is what he’s got planned.
