Marco Penge’s rise on the DP World Tour has been an inspirational one. After a suspension in December 2024, Penge returned stronger in 2025 and won two DP World Tour titles. However, it is difficult for anyone to come back this strong without the right support.

For Penge, the support came not just from family, but more from the on-ground team. Through the highs and lows, his caddie, Max Bill, has stood right there with him. Let’s learn more about Penge’s bag holder.

Penge turned professional in 2017 and had to spend several years before earning his DP World Tour card for the 2024 season. Ever since then, Max Bill has been on the bag for the 2-time DP World Tour winner. When Penge got suspended, Bill played a significant role in helping him get through it.

The Englishman quickly won the Hainan Classic in April after returning from the ban. After the victory, Penge praised his caddie and said, “My caddie, through that time, has been my rock. And my wife and my whole team, I wouldn’t be where I am without them. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

He even shared an Instagram post after the victory. He shared how difficult it was to come back and thanked the people who offered support, including his team and Max Bill.

Bill is an experienced caddie and has previously worked with multiple stars. In 2022, he was working with David Law before joining Maro Penge on his journey. Before the 2022 Hero Open, Bill fell sick, and David had to bring his manager on the bag for a limited time. “My caddie, Max, he’s ill. Last night at 6 pm, he (said he) couldn’t make it today,” said Law. It remains unclear how long the duo worked together or when they eventually parted ways.

Bill’s reputation as a skilled, composed caddie precedes him. His previous stints with multiple DP World Tour professionals have helped him develop a deep understanding of course management and player psychology. For Penge, Bill provides a grounding presence that complements his aggressive, long-hitting style. The pair has developed a rhythm that’s clearly visible during tournament play. This has also been reflected in Penge’s 2025 season.

Since returning from suspension, Penge’s consistency has been impressive. Along with two victories, he finished third at the South African Open, tied second at the Genesis Scottish Open, and tied 28th at the PGA Championship. Those results pushed him to 55th position on the Official World Golf Ranking. It is an impressive leap for a player in only his second season on the DP World Tour.

Max Bill’s support for Marco Penge during the suspension

Marco Penge was suspended for three months from the DP World Tour for betting. According to Sky Sports, Penge said that, “Back in April 2024, the Tour were informed by a betting agency that I had placed some bets on golf from 2022, with an overall average stake of £24 and total profit of c.£250. 68 per cent of the bets I placed were before I took the integrity programme education course in March 2023.”

None of these bets were on matches he contested. However, he was handed a three-month suspension. The suspension took effect on 13 December 2024. As a result, Penge returned to the DP World Tour in February 2025. Besides the suspension, the Disciplinary Panel also fined him £2,000.

During that time, Penge described Max Bill as his “rock.” The episode could have easily derailed his young career. But it became a turning point. Penge returned to competition looking sharper, more focused, and motivated to prove himself.
