President Donald Trump is making many appearances at sporting events in 2025. In February 2025, he became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl. Later, he attended the Daytona 500 NASCAR race in Florida, the NCAA wrestling championships in Philadelphia, the LIV Golf tournament at Trump National Doral Golf Club, and the FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey. His most recent attendance was at the U.S. Open men’s tennis final at Flushing Meadows in September 2025. Now, Trump has scheduled his appearance at the Ryder Cup. But on which day and at what time will we see President Trump at Bethpage Black?

Trump is a golf fanatic. He had announced his arrival at Bethpage Black on the opening day, which will remain as it is. However, the timings of his arrival have changed. He was initially supposed to visit the event held in his hometown early on Friday morning. The expected arrival was before the first tee shot scheduled at 7:10 a.m. on September 26, 2025. However, the PGA of America has requested Trump to arrive a little later before the fourballs start.
The request comes in the wake of the recent chaos that occurred at the U.S. Open men’s tennis final. Attending the final between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, Trump became the first sitting president at Flushing Meadows since Bill Clinton in 2000. However, it was at the cost of fans who had to wait for several minutes outside the stadium due to security delays. The match was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET, but started after a 48-minute delay, as fans were stuck in lines outside for additional security measures.

While the delay in the U.S. Open didn’t affect the game itself, it might not be the same for the Ryder Cup. Speaking about the delay, Ryder Cup Director Bryan Karns said that the Ryder Cup can’t push back the start of the play.

“We actually won’t be able to delay the tee times because we don’t have the evening. At Arthur Ashe Stadium, you can flip those lights on, you can go late. Whereas we don’t have that luxury of doing that, and you obviously want to make sure, if possible, you’re finishing both sessions on the day we start them so the fans can see it from start to finish,” Karns told Front Office Sports.

Karns’ words are true, as players can’t play in dark conditions. There have been incidents where golfers rushed the game because of darkening conditions. The 2014 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club comes to mind. When the rain delayed play for two hours, the final round’s tee time was pushed back. Thus, players had to play in increasingly dark conditions, which affected their game. The same happened at the ANNIKA event in 2024. It even ignited the pace of play debate in the LPGA. Charley Hull, the player affected by this, also demanded strict action against slow-play issues later on.
The aim of changing Trump’s arrival is to prevent any disturbances to the game. However, it is not the only thing the Ryder Cup organizers are doing. There are many other things going into preparation to prevent any delays on Trump’s arrival at Bethpage Black.

Ryder Cup preparation for Donald Trump’s arrival
The good thing for Ryder Cup organizers is that Trump’s arrival at the U.S. Open men’s final has taught them what disruptions can occur. Thus, they have insights into how they can tackle any delays. And that’s what the European captain Luke Donald expects of them.
During a press conference at the BMW PGA Championship, Luke said, “The PGA of America is obviously organizing this. There were some delays at the tennis, I think you’re probably all aware of that, which is probably a good thing; hopefully, they have learnt from that. It’s a big process, obviously, to get a president to come to an event. There’s a lot of security and everything. It takes some work, I’m sure. The PGA of America’s job is to make sure it’s seamless.”

After the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk, the security measures could probably increase. The good thing, though, is that the organizers have made enough preparations. Director Karns has said that “There’s been a lot of really good discussions so far.” Trump’s team is also being mindful of keeping any disruptions to a minimum, if at all. The key will be the right collaboration between the organizers and the Secret Service to figure out how to ensure the president can enjoy the game without disrupting the flow.
The PGA of America and the Ryder Cup team have taken necessary measures and even requested the president to postpone the arrival from early morning tee time to the fourball session in the afternoon. But will it prevent disruptions, or will there still be a delay in the game? We can only be certain when the Ryder Cup begins on September 26th, 2025.
