Things might go down to the wire at the Royal Golf Club in the Kingdom of Bahrain this weekend. Freddy Schott, Calum Hill, and Patrick Reed are battling it out on Championship Sunday in the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship 2026. And they might push the tournament beyond the regulation 72 holes. On that note, let’s look at the playoff format of the DP World Tour event this week.

Bapco Bahrain Championship 2026 playoff format

If a winner is not determined after 72 holes are completed, then those tied for first place will move on to the playoff round. According to the DP World Tour website, they will play sudden-death rounds on the 18th hole to outscore each other. The pros will keep on playing the 18th hole until a definitive champion is confirmed. Anyone else who entered the playoffs will finish second.

Considering that there are three candidates for the top spot, the eliminator will be decided in a three-way contest. If two of the three score a par or better on the par-4 18th hole in the playoff while the third scores worse, then the third player will be eliminated. Then, the remaining two will continue to play another round of the 18th hole.

A winner can only be confirmed if there is one pro who outscores everyone who enters the playoff. They will be rewarded with the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship 2026 title and the $467,500 prize money.

Reviewing the action at the Royal Golf Club

As mentioned, it’s a tight contest between Freddy Schott, Calum Hill, and Patrick Reed. All three individuals have fought hard to maintain their position at the top of the leaderboard. Hill has been the most dominant in the tournament. But Schott and Reed caught up to him towards the end of Championship Sunday.

They did just enough to enter the playoffs with him. Yes, all three pros have already joined the sudden death round. And there has also been an elimination after one hole was completed in the playoff between the trio.

After facing each other on the 18th hole once again, Hill and Schott shot a par on the par-4 hole. However, Reed wasn’t able to match their score as he scored a bogey just after the first playoff. The 2026 Hero Dubai Desert Classic champion has been officially eliminated from the contest. It’s now a two man show to determine who will win the Bapco Bahrain Championship and take home the maximum from the $2.75 million purse.
