The unending battle between the PGA Tour and the weather did not leave the circuit even at the BMW Championship in Colorado. The second event of the FedExCup playoffs started pretty normally, but at 3:33 p.m. the call was made and the round was suspended as two storms raged in the Castle Pines GC area. After a delay of 3 hours and 10 minutes, the field could finish their opening round.

But it did leave Wyndham Clark a little frustrated as he was paired with Rory McIlroy and had one wish for the Northern Irishman. At the round 1 press conference of the BMW Championship, Clark was asked about his reaction when the weather alarm rang after his play. The 3-time PGA Tour winner said, “I knew it was close and I kind of wanted Rory to speed up because I was like, gosh, if we could just play real quick and maybe tell the guy to hold off a little bit.” 

Furthermore, the 2023 US Open winner expressed that it was a bummer and as he knows his hometown inside out, he hoped that it was just a 30-minute Colorado storm. However, there was one more coming after the first one, which left the 30-year-old a bit gloomy. He said, “Definitely a bummer being here for three hours.”

With the weather throwing a wrench into Clark’s plans, his plans of getting back to his former form and playing a better game at the Castle Pines GC were surely disrupted. Six birdies, two double bogeys, and two bogeys, the Colorado native finished his opening round at even par and T22 in the leaderboard of the BMW Championship.

Although the first round was not as eventful as Clark would have hoped, his frustration with the weather soon died down, and the 3-time PGA Tour winner decided to take full advantage of the 3-hour delay.

What did Wyndham Clark do during the weather delay?

Before Wyndham Clark shot the birdie at the 18th hole to end his opening round, he already practiced many times as he had hours on his hands because the BMW Championship was delayed. So what more did he do during that time? Well, the 30-year-old pro revealed after the sirens went off, he went into the club, and after a while started working with his trainer.

After that, he went and met a few of his hometown friends and then headed to the greens to make a couple of putts. His caddie, John Ellis followed the PGA Tour pro as they started playing a ball-rolling competition. And just a moment before Clark was frustrated with Rory McIlroy, the two now were playing together.

The 3-time PGA Tour winner expressed how McIlroy entered the competition, he said, “Rory behind us threw it, and then we said, all right, let’s all do it, and then we did one down and back.” But Clark revealed that there was no winner but just a make of $100, which he didn’t share who won. After getting bashed by fans for his Olympics qualification, Clark has been on a redemption arc as he finished T7 at the St. Jude Championship and would now expect a better finish at Castle Pines. The question is will he be able to do that? It remains to be seen.
