Tiger Woods‘s arrest affidavit reveals hitherto unknown details about the accident. Woods, who turned 50 last December, told police he was distracted by his phone and the radio when he crashed his Land Rover last Friday. However, when officers searched him, they found two hydrocodone pills in his pocket.
Tiger admitted to taking prescription medicine earlier that morning, telling deputies, “I take a few.” While a breath test showed he had no alcohol in his system, police arrested him for driving under the influence (DUI) when he refused the urine test. The affidavit notes that Woods had “bloodshot and glassy eyes.” He also appeared to be very sleepy during sobriety tests.

The report further notes that Woods was in no condition to drive; his pupils were extremely dilated. When quizzed about the pills, the 50-year-old said he took a few in the morning. Hydrocodone pills are generally prescribed to patients with moderate to severe back pain. Woods underwent a microdiscectomy in October 2025 and told officers that he uses hydrocodone to alleviate pain. However, hydrocodone has side effects.
Medical studies suggest taking hydrocodone pills can result in feeling drowsy and sedated. The dr*g binds opioid receptors in the brain and nervous system. It is also known to cause habit formation, and higher doses may impair thinking and decision-making. The affidavit filed by the Martin County Sheriff’s deputy doesn’t mention whether Woods detailed his prescribed doses. However, its effects were evident from the report. Tiger Woods started the sobriety test before he was asked to. He was also sweating severely and wrongly counted his steps.
“Woods continuously moved his head from side to side and had to be instructed several times to keep his head straight,” the affidavit mentions.
The officers decided that Woods was in no condition to drive. He was eventually jailed for eight hours, before being released on bail around 11 p.m. The report also reveals another key detail. Woods avoided a perhaps more severe injury thanks to the driver of the truck he hit.

His car rolled over onto the driver’s side. As opposed to what was reported earlier, Woods didn’t crawl out on his own. The driver of the truck pulled him out of the car and potentially saved him from a more serious injury. The 50-year-old was seen wearing a golf outfit and appeared to be on the phone.
The police affidavit will complicate the matter further as Woods has been facing serious questions since the accident.
A legend in serious trouble
This news comes at a very bad time for the 15-time major winner. Fans were hoping to see him play in the Masters next month. However, right now, even Woods’s ardent admirers are disappointed. Brandel Chamblee, who claimed Woods is the greatest golfer of all time, questioned why the veteran still feels the need to play. The Golf Channel analyst believes Woods is only tarnishing his legacy.
Meanwhile, Mark Lye, a former PGA Tour pro, called for the PGA Tour to strip him of the honor of hosting the Genesis Invitational and the Hero World Challenge. The latter one is an unofficial event that Woods hosts in the Bahamas to benefit his foundation. On the other hand, Stephen A. Smith, a famed TV personality, lamented that Tiger Woods has developed an addiction to prescribed medications.
Woods’s team has yet to release any official statement as of now. However, the DUI arrest has caused a firestorm that refuses to die down. There have also been reports of Woods resuming practice rounds, which raised hopes for a dramatic comeback at the Masters. Notably, Woods played the TGL final recently, and he appeared to be in good health.
The incident also prompted some to ask why Woods chooses to drive despite having crashed his car thrice before. A source told People.com that the 15-time major champion is a private person and refuses to take a chauffeur for that reason.
While Woods has found sympathy from the sitting President, the public opinion continues to be divided. The Martin County sheriff also noted that the accident could’ve been more severe, as the lane was narrow and another car coming from the opposite side would’ve resulted in a head-on collision. None of this helps Tiger Woods.
