The Masters and Augusta National are all about traditions and ceremonies. The Champions Dinner is perhaps the most exclusive of them all. When Scottie Scheffler hosted it for the first time in 2023, he actually “snuck” his wife, Meredith, into that room reserved for only the past champions of the tournament. The World No. 1 shared the story of how and why.

“I got there early, checked everything out, kind of snuck Meredith up there, let her see, because she kind of helped me plan out a lot of the food and all that stuff. Obviously, I wanted her to see it, so I kind of snuck her up the back, showed her everything before it got started,” the World No. 1 spilled the beans from Bay Hill this week.
To clarify, no past champion is allowed to bring spouses, children, or even fellow professionals to the Masters Champions Dinner. Scheffler wasn’t allowed either. But it was a gesture of gratitude.

Meredith helped Scheffler pick the menu. It included cheeseburger sliders and tortilla soup. The sliders were made “Scottie style.” There were also Texas ribeye steak or blackened redfish, and a warm chocolate chip skillet cookie.

Scheffler won the 2022 Masters Tournament by three shots to earn his first of two Green Jackets. Like every Masters champion, the World No. 1 had no clue what happened during the Champions Dinner.

Sharing more details from the Champions Dinner, Scheffler continued, “There’s a little protocol. I’m definitely not going to go sit in the area where Tiger [Woods] and Jack [Nicklaus] sit. Like, there’s kind of spots where you kind of feel you’ll naturally flow into.”
The ceremony is held in the Masters Club Room upstairs at Augusta National. It begins with a group photo at 7:30 p.m., followed by a closed-door meal. This reinforces how unusual any “non-champion” presence would be.

But Scottie Scheffler is not a very social person. Since he didn’t want to disappoint, he sought his wife’s help in planning the menu and everything else. So the four-time major champion felt like it was only fair to let her catch a glimpse of it all.
Scheffler didn’t mention whether chairman Fred Ridley was on board with the proposal, but it’s reasonable to guess that no such permission was needed.
Nevertheless, planning the Masters Champions Dinner is not the only thing Meredith has helped Scottie Scheffler with.

Meredith Scheffler’s sacrifices to support Scottie Scheffler’s career
The World No. 1 emphasizes that his consistency in the game is not because of practice alone. Notably, his wife plays a significant role in helping him build that consistency.
Scottie Scheffler explained that if things aren’t right at home, thoughts of those issues creep into his mind on the course. However, his wife is very sensible about those things and can quickly sense if there’s something on the 20x PGA Tour winner’s mind.

The World No. 1 says that this helps him focus on the game and give his best.
Besides that, Meredith Scheffler always prioritizes his game despite the responsibility of being the director of a nonprofit. In fact, the 2x Masters champion said that his wife has sacrificed half of her life on the road for him.
“I mean, my wife is my biggest supporter, she’s my best friend… Yeah, definitely couldn’t do it without her,” the 29-year-old said last year from Ohio after winning the 2025 Memorial Tournament.

Meredith Scheffler’s support away from the course has quietly shaped Scottie Scheffler’s success. Scheffler and Meredith have a one-year-old baby. Bennett Scheffler has been present during most of his dad’s victories, watching his dad from his mother’s lap.
This makes moments like the Champions Dinner story feel even more meaningful. Letting her take a quick look inside Augusta’s most exclusive room was not about bending tradition. It was about acknowledging the person who helped make the night possible.
