It’s safe to say that Rory McIlroy reached a certain peak of his career in 2025. It will be exciting to see what he produces in 2026. But one thing is for sure, he isn’t getting any younger. In fact, he himself said it, “I can be a really good golfer for the next five to ten years, but I’m still going to have half my life to live after that.” And he’s planning for life after golf already.

As Josh Carpenter revealed, “Rory McIlroy has launched a new production arm, ‘Firethorn Productions,’ alongside Versant and GolfPass. The venture will produce documentaries, brand campaigns and live events. The “Firethorn” name is an obvious ode to the 15th at Augusta National, where McIlroy hit the signature shot of this year’s @TheMasters.”

Based on the details provided in the Sports Business Journal article, the deal between McIlroy and GolfPass runs through to 2038. And till then, the Irishman will be the face of the company. McIlroy’s team and Versant leadership will run the new venture.

McIlroy has been the founder and ambassador of GolfPass ever since it launched on February 5, 2019. He had already been working on a deal to collaborate with NBC Sports for two years. Together, they founded GolfPass to give fans access to a digital membership platform that delivers exclusive content, tips, and perks for golf fans.

Along with the Firethorn Productions project, they will be able to offer more services to the GolfPass users. NBC Sports and Golf Channel will be able to produce documentaries and brand campaigns while continuing to host live events with the new studio.

Rory McIlroy is making big career moves to secure his future after golf

Rory McIlroy only started talking about his life away from the professional golf circuit a month ago. But he had already been planning for it for quite some time now. In fact, he made his first big move to secure his life after his retirement nearly 12 months ago.

Back in January 2025, NUCLR GOLF confirmed a huge report from the Irishman’s camp. “🚨💰⛳️ NEW: Rory McIlroy has a new sponsorship with FM Commercial Property Insurance and will be adding their logo to his golf bag for ‘select tournaments’. @TrackingRory.”

The Grand Slam champion had signed a multi-year deal with the $2.1 billion commercial property insurance firm, FM. He already had some big brands like TaylorMade, Optum, Omega, Sports, FootJoy, and Jumeirah in his portfolio then. McIlroy was also the co-owner of TMRW Sports alongside Tiger Woods.

But his insistence on aligning himself with great business partners already showed that he was making wise business decisions. While retirement was not discussed then, it was evident that these were his plans for the future. And now that it’s clearly in the picture, every one of his business moves makes much more sense.
