The 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York, is set to be a historic event, not only for the fierce competition between Team USA and Team Europe but also due to the anticipated presence of  President Donald Trump on Friday, September 26. His attendance has prompted the PGA of America and local authorities to implement stringent security measures, significantly impacting the spectator experience.

In anticipation of President Trump’s visit, organizers have announced heightened security procedures. Spectators are advised to arrive early, with gates opening at 5 a.m., to accommodate additional TSA-style screening points around the clubhouse, grandstand, and surrounding areas. Fans who leave these secure zones will need to undergo screening again upon reentry.

With ticket prices soaring above $1,000 on secondary markets for Friday’s opening day, fans are questioning whether the experience will justify the cost. The combination of stringent security, potential delays, and limited access to certain areas has led some to reconsider their plans to attend.

While the presence of President Trump at the Ryder Cup is a notable event, the accompanying security measures have raised concerns among fans. As the tournament progresses, it remains to be seen how these restrictions will impact attendance and the overall spectator experience. For now, attendees are advised to plan accordingly, arrive early, and be prepared for the enhanced security protocols in place.

But while these enhanced security measures are intended to ensure safety during President Trump’s visit, they have sparked a wave of reactions from fans, many of whom are voicing concerns over how the restrictions will affect their Ryder Cup experience.

Fans react to the applied restrictions on Donald Trump’s visit

The imposition of these restrictions has sparked a huge wave of discontent among fans. Many took to social media platforms like X to voice their frustrations. One fan commented, WTF – No golf umbrellas allowed at a golfing event in NY in late September 😂😂” Fans are expressing disbelief over the ban on large umbrellas, a common item for spectators, especially considering the unpredictable weather in late September in New York.

Another fan commented, Will be worse than what happened at the US Open tennis finals.” Likely referring to previous events, such as the August U.S. Open, where rain washed out the qualifying rounds of the tennis tournament, security measures led to delays and frustrations, drawing a parallel to potential issues at the Ryder Cup. The third comment said, Give refunds to attendees for that day.” Emphasizing that the enhanced security measures may diminish the value of their tickets, suggesting that refunds would be appropriate compensation.

One comment, searing in frustration, said, Why would anyone bother to attend? Outrageous ticket prices, almost no chance of seeing much and now this.” The combination of high ticket prices and restrictive security measures has led some fans to question the overall value of attending the event. Another comment, this one lighthearted, however, said, “Any TSA Pre-Check options lol,” humorously suggesting that fans are hoping for expedited security screening, similar to TSA PreCheck at airports, to alleviate potential delays.

One comment that caught the most attention was instead a prediction: some fans predict that the stringent security measures may deter attendance, potentially affecting the atmosphere and energy of the event. Emphasizing this, the comment said, Well this is gonna tank attendance for Friday.” These comments reflect a broader sentiment that the heightened security measures may detract from the overall experience of attending the event. The combination of stringent security, potential delays, and limited access to certain areas has led some to reconsider their plans to attend.
