Nelly Korda absolutely crushed it in 2024 (7 LPGA wins and 2nd major title at Chevron Championship!) – no debate there. But let’s be real, this season she’s been dialing it back a notch… or maybe a few. Still, early this year, although Korda agreed that “Last year was definitely a very, very, very crazy year,” she also pointed out, “Last year is last year.” And, following her 2025 ISPS Handa Women’s Scottish Open performance, she reiterated this sentiment.

Ahead of the 2025 AIG Women’s Open, Nelly Korda dismissed any questions surrounding her current winless streak, saying, “I feel like I don’t really have anything more to prove to people ever. For me it’s just I’m passionate about the game. I love the game. I love playing in these kind of conditions, testing my game, and getting to play against the best players in the world.” 

This is a pretty solid statement, given her last week’s performance and statement that “That kind of always stings a little bit” about her third round mistakes. At Dundonald Links, Nelly Korda carded a 71 to finish 13-under on Sunday, eight strokes behind the champion, Lottie Woad. On the other hand, despite not contending for the top spot, it marked her fifth top-10 finish of the season, with her closest call being at the 2025 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions (2).

Now, Korda says at the presser, “Having something to prove to myself, I don’t think I really need to do that. For me it’s just enjoying it and being in the heat of the battle. I feel like, yeah, of course I want to accomplish more. There are goals that I have, goals that I set for myself.” Now, she admits that her “goal is to prepare the best that I can, enjoy myself, and hopefully be in contention.” 

And not only Korda, but all of her fans will hope that she has a consistent performance for the whole week, just not a day or two. At the 2024 AIG Women’s Open, for instance, despite a 36-hole lead, Korda eventually finished with a share of second alongside Ruoning Yin, Lilia Vu, and Jiyai Shin, all of whom will join her this week. Again. Sure, it was her best AIG Women’s Open finish in 8 appearances, yet hopefully, she will try not to repeat the mistakes she made against these pros in 2024.

At the 2024 AIG Women’s Open, Nelly Korda was looking to create history. Instead, she experienced disastrous moments, especially in the back 9 of St. Andrews. On Sunday, holding a comfortable two-shot lead heading into the par-5 14th at St Andrews’ iconic Old Course, disaster struck when her fourth shot failed to find the green, leaving her with a tricky par chip that she couldn’t convert. The bogey putt drifted agonizingly right, resulting in a costly double bogey that shattered her momentum.

The damage was compounded at the notorious “Road Hole” 17th, where her second shot found the treacherous front-left bunker. Although she escaped cleanly, her subsequent putt for par slipped past the hole, dropping her to five under and leaving her chasing the clubhouse leader, Lydia Ko. Despite valiantly fighting back, Korda ultimately fell short, finishing in a four-way tie for second. The double bogey on 14 proved particularly pivotal, as she needed an eagle on the 18th to even force a playoff – but it was not to be.

Yet, following the loss and the close finish (T2), Nelly Korda said, “Listen, it’s golf. I’m going to mess up and unfortunately I messed up over the weekend twice in two penalising ways coming down the stretch. Theoretically that’s what kind of cost me the tournament but I played well. I played solid. I even fought after that. I’m going to take that into the next coming events.”  Hopefully, this consistent attitude will help Nelly Korda fix all those 2024 mistakes at Royal Porthcawl Golf Course, the host of the 2025 AIG Women’s Open.
