Particularly, the fact that he has ever started a family. Throughout his career, many of his family members have cheered for him from behind the ropes. His parents have been frequent visitors on the golf course. But he has never had a partner supporting him during important golf events. That’s because Olazabal has never been married.

The Spanish legend has always kept his personal life private. While his parents have been involved in his professional life, he has never let other relationships be a part of golf. But still, the 60-year-old has never been in a relationship that led to marriage.

In fact, Olazabal has also explicitly mentioned the challenges of maintaining a romantic relationship as a professional golfer. Speaking to Donald McRae of The Guardian in September 2005, he discussed why it has been difficult for him to have a great relationship.

“It’s tough to have a relationship. The tour must be a very boring place if you’re a wife or a girlfriend,” Olazabal told McRae.

He has also mentioned numerous times that his primary focus has always been on golf. That is what has helped him achieve great heights in the sport. With six wins in his PGA Tour career, two of them coming at Augusta National, Olazabal has been more than occupied for most of his life.

Jose Maria Olazabal is still going strong at 60

This season, he has already competed in two Senior Tour events. His last tournament was the Hoag Classic, where he finished at T14. Still in pursuit of his first PGA Tour Champions win, the Spanish legend continues to battle the best in his age group.

He also made his annual appearance in the 2026 Masters Tournament. With the likes of Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and Bryson DeChambeau on the field, Olazabal is performing quite well. His familiarity with Augusta National is certainly playing in his favor.

With a great show in the first round, he is within the ranks to play the weekend. If he continues to perform this way, then he will make the cut for the first time since 2024. It will be interesting to see where he finishes in the end.
