Instead, it is the three-time major winner’s fashion choice during the third round of the 2026 PGA Championship that has grabbed attention, and for all the wrong reasons.

X was flooded with pictures of Spieth wearing a blue checkered Under Armour polo with beige stripes that cost $95. He paired it with navy blue pants, but unfortunately, the combination did not look great on the fairway.

In a field that had PGA Tour’s fashion icons like Adam Scott and Keith Mitchell, Spieth’s absurd outfit choice didn’t leave a positive impression, especially considering his status in the sport. He is a beloved figure in golf, having won three major championships before turning 24, and fans were certainly going to scrutinize every move he made.

With two more rounds to play, he probably will not be too worried about the criticism over his fashion choice, but rather his own performances. After opening rounds of 69 and 72, Spieth entered the weekend at 1-over par.

“I struck the ball well. I drove it really well. I was in a good position on a lot of holes. If I drive it like that, I’d expect to shoot what I did or better,” he said in an interview. “I feel like I played better than I scored, which is frustrating because you want to get the most out of your round…”

That said, if Spieth does choose to check what the internet has to say about it, he will find quite a few comments waiting for him.

Spieth’s attire in Pennsylvania becomes subject to ridicule

“Horrendous…but unsurprising. It’s under armour. Looks like he bought it off the sales rack at Kohl’s,” a fan wrote on X, taking a dig at his sponsor too.

The community is divided between whether they should cheer Jordan Spieth or criticize him for the poor outfit choice. So they decided to collectively poke fun at the 32-year-old instead.

One of them said, “Spieth is wearing Tiger’s nine windows drill.”

They were referring to a popular practice method created by Tiger Woods to cover different ball flights. It helps golfers master ball control and shape shots in a variety of situations. The design on Spieth’s polo closely resembles the diagram used for that same method.

“You can’t shoot a respectable 68 in this shirt, it’s either a 65 or a 75,” another user added.

They believe the absurd outfit choice can only result in an extreme result of more than 5-under or 5-over par. Spieth will require some out-of-the-box thinking to cover the five-stroke difference to the top of the table.

One fan wrote, “Man looks like a Windows 98 screen saver,” recalling the old screensaver that featured the Windows logo surrounded by brick-patterned walls. Fans joked that Spieth’s checkered polo looked strikingly similar, especially with its block-style design and retro feel.

Someone wrote, “Looks like one of my textbook covers from middle school.”

Even today, plenty of middle school book covers still carry checkered designs similar to Spieth’s polo, just usually in beige or burgundy colors instead.

One fan also wrote, “Someone get sticky notes to Greller and have him play tic tac toe.”

The boxes on the polo were perfectly sized for it, which led fans to joke that Spieth’s caddie, Michael Greller, could start drawing X’s and O’s on his shirt once the round was over.

Maybe Spieth simply forgot to pack all of his sponsored attire for the 2026 PGA Championship and had to throw something together from Under Armour at the last minute. But if the brand intentionally chose that design for him, fans probably will not be rushing to buy it anytime soon.
