For Cameron Young, winning the 2026 PLAYERS Championship brought a $4.5 million prize, a one-shot win over Matt Fitzpatrick, and his second PGA Tour title. This time, though, he also had something he missed before: his wife, Kelsey, and their three children waiting for him on the 18th green at TPC Sawgrass. And what he said afterward struck a chord with golf fans everywhere.
“None of this is possible without my wife, Kelsey, and my family,” Young said in his post-round interview. “She works incredibly hard on all of our behalf. She holds up that part of it at home and does it all on my behalf, so I can go do my job and chase my dreams.”

Young’s words carried extra weight because of what happened the year before. When he won his first PGA Tour title at the 2025 Wyndham Championship, his family was not there. It was one of the few weeks they missed all season. That win was celebrated from 2,500 miles away.
“I’ve dreamed of having that moment with them for a long time,” Young said when asked about seeing his two boys run onto the green while his wife sat with their daughter as the trophy ceremony unfolded. “To get to see them after I went and did my interviews and stuff and got to actually give my boys a hug, see my wife, see my little girl — that’s something I’ll remember for a long time.

“My kids are more interested in the drone than the trophy, which I think is a really nice bit of perspective on a day like today.”
The 28-year-old started strong with rounds of 68 and 67, putting himself in a tie for the lead going into the weekend. A double bogey on the 18th in round three set him back to 9-under. On Sunday, Ludvig Aberg led by three shots after 54 holes but faltered on the back nine. He bogeyed the par-five 11th and then hit into the water on the par-four 12th. In just two holes, his two-shot lead became a two-shot deficit.
Young kept his composure and birdied the 17th from just under ten feet to tie Fitzpatrick. The 31-year-old then found the trees with his tee shot on 18, which gave Young the win.
Kelsey Dalition, Young’s wife since March 2021, who has been with him through his difficult times, finally saw him lift the trophy. The interview clip quickly spread across social media, gaining nearly 282K views in just under two hours, as fans responded to a side of professional golf that is rarely shown for long.
Cameron Young’s PLAYERS Championship win draws fan reactions online
The simplest responses said the most. Several fans reacted with nothing more than “Love this” and “Save this one for him!” — the kind of comments that surface when a moment does not need explaining.
Others framed it as something the sport does better than most.
“The game of golf always highlights the family,” wrote one fan.
“The family celebrations during the trophy ceremony might be my favorite thing about golf. No other sport like it,” added another.

And rightfully so, as the celebration with family is something that has warmed fans’ hearts across the board. Just take the example of Russell Henley, who celebrated with his family on the 18th green after winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard on March 9, 2025, in Orlando, Florida.
Then there is Rory McIlroy’s Masters win. After he had defeated Justin Rose in a playoff and become the sixth player to complete the career Grand Slam, he scooped up Poppy in an emotional embrace. Even at the Green Jacket Presentation Ceremony, McIlroy’s voice cracked as he began to talk about his family and team.
“The only thing I would say to my daughter Poppy that’s sitting over there, never give up on your dreams. Never ever give up on your dreams,” he said, adding, “Keep coming back, keep working hard, and if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. I love you.”
Moving on, one fan documented the scene directly as it unfolded on the broadcast: “GREAT FAMILY SCENES… As Cameron Young is welcomed by fans and family as the new and also the Players champion.”
The reaction that got the most attention showed a clear gap between what people thought about Young and what his life is actually like off the course. Many assumed he was just another single Tour pro, but in reality, he has spent years on the road with his wife, Kelsey, raising three children. Kelsey manages all the travel, and together they have raised Henry, John, and Vivienne while Young worked through seven runner-up finishes before finally winning two titles.
Young called it a memorable moment for his family. The reaction on social media showed that many others took notice as well.
