Cameron Smith has found the fourth and final player for his team. A fellow Australian, 28-year-old Lucas Herbert, is now confirmed as the fourth and final player to join his team, Ripper GC. LIV Golf will start its schedule for 2024 with the Mayakoba event, scheduled from February 2–4.

And before the games commence, Smith has managed to make his wish for his team come true by recruiting a league of golfers of different age groups. Smith, who himself is 30 years old, is the second-youngest member of his team.

In taking charge of LIV Golf for the 2024 season, Smith will be moving ahead with his all-Australian team, with Herbert as the latest addition. Born in 1995, Herbert is among the young blood of Australian golfers. Despite being young, Herbert has many accomplishments under his belt.

In the past, he has won the 2020 Dubai Desert Classic, the 2021 Irish Open, and the 2023 ISPS Handa in Japan. He has also enjoyed a win on the PGA Tour’s Bermuda Championship in 2021. Now he will be among those players who left behind the PGAT and DP World Tour for LIV Golf.

His other teammates are 40-year-old Marc Leishman, who also used to play on the PGA Tour and the DPWT. On the American Tour, he has scored six wins. Later, he joined LIV. The third member of the team is 43-year-old Matt Jones. He also registered two wins on the PGA Tour and two on the Australian Tour.

This year, GC completes with Herbert, who interestingly took a break of two months on the PGA Tour in the middle of the season last year owing to his mental health issues.

After his brief hiatus last year, Herbert returned to playing on the PGA Tour at the Fortinet Championship. During the press conference, he reflected on what led to his break. “I think I’d become probably a bitter and spiteful person,” he said. “I was wound up pretty tight and kind of lashed out at people around me too quickly, too easily.”

He also admitted that it was hard to take any time off in the middle of the season, but it was the need of the hour. He continued, “I just didn’t have the ability to go and do that. It sort of got to a point, a sort of breaking point, I just had to do it.” 

After a good run on the PGA Tour, Herbert will now be enjoying a relaxed season on LIV Golf.
