The Scientist was up for a putting contest, where he had to field a quirky request from a fan. DeChambeau lost the bet and had to part ways with not his 3D-printed iron but his low-cut socks.

Bryson DeChambeau: “If I don’t make it what do you want?” 

Fan: “I want your socks.” 

BD: “You want my socks?”

Fan: “If you don’t make it I want your socks.”

Bryson DeChambeau lined up the ten-footer. Amid loud chants of his name, the Scientist missed it by a regrettably thin margin. Keeping his promise, DeChambeau gave away his socks, with fans bowing down and chanting his name. Oh, he also signed them. 

Funnily enough, when DeChambeau was walking barefoot to the clubhouse, 4Aces Captain Dustin Johnson was seated on the stairs. DeChambeau explained to bystanders what happened a few minutes earlier. “That’s disgusting.” Someone remarked from the side. From Johnson’s face, it did seem you wouldn’t want to know what was going on inside his head. 

Now, LIV Golf Adelaide was always going to be crazy. Fans flocked around Cameron Smith in the opening round. A bottle struck Lucas Herbert’s caddie on the head. But he wasn’t hurt, Herbert later confirmed and the fans self-policed themselves. And now we have this. Can it get any better, fans ask!

Fans hail Bryson DeChambeau for his jolly spirit

Greg Norman called Adelaide a blueprint of success for other LIV events. The electrifying atmosphere and bizarre incidents like this only add one more story to the already-growing lore around LIV Golf Adelaide. Great White Shark ruled out any plans of adding more stops in his home country, but he might have to walk back on that.

LIV Golf League commented on their official handle, “Aussie fans are the best.” Even Crushers, while sharing that clip on its Instagram story, captioned, “Only in Adelaide.”

But it wouldn’t have been possible if Bryson DeChambeau didn’t entertain the fans. He could’ve walked back from it. Instead, he smelled the socks before handing them to its new owner. Sharing that on his Instagram story, the eight-time PGA Tour winner wrote, “And there goes my socks. Enjoy them, I guess.”

One user noted, “Bryson is the man. So friendly here in Adelaide. Legend”. Some others concurred. “Legend… what a day it was yesterday”. A third added, “That’s hilarious. Bet a man his socks.” Noting that the former US Open Champion provides a lot of inside content – one-club challenges with Sergio Garcia, and Phil Mickelson—one fan wrote, “The amount of inside content he does on IG & YouTube is next level. ”

Bryson DeChambeau might have lost his socks, but he has surely won fans’ hearts. Fans would eagerly wait for the final round to bring in more shenanigans like this.
