Brooke Henderson loves golf, but she’s not pretending it’s easy. Before her big win at the 2025 CPKC Women’s Open, she said, “Golf is hard and I found that out more recently than I ever have.” She’s working through them, one day at a time, even if a few of them are more persistent than others.

Speaking on that, in an exclusive with Golfweek, Henderson shed some light on how golf affects her relationship with her boyfriend. “I feel like this life out here is pretty difficult because you travel so much,” Henderson begins, “He’s traveling a lot, I’m traveling a lot, so he really understands the lifestyle and all that it takes to perform at your best.” Of course, then, having a partner who knows what it’s like to be a pro athlete makes things easier for her.

Who’s the guy, then? Even though, Henderson likes to keep her private life, well, private, several weeks ago, she shared a picture with her beau, Ricky Castro. The news excited the fans, but not as much as the information that he is also involved with sports. Castro plays as a pitcher for the Wichita Wind Surge, a minor league team linked to the Minnesota Twins. Despite the relatively short time together, Castro is pretty on board with Henderson’s demanding LPGA schedule, enough that she says now, “So he’s very understanding that way, which I think is really key in a relationship out here.”

That indeed is the case, and never mind that, despite this difficulty, the couple enjoys spending some time playing golf. And when that happens, how does Castro play? Henderson laughed before she told Golfweek, “He hits it super far, which is really impressive.” We are pretty sure she is fixing all of Castro’s golf issues as we speak.

Of course, Henderson’s often been honest about her feelings on traveling and spending time with her family. In 2022, for instance, after winning the Evian Championship, she said of her sister and caddie, Britany, “Traveling around the world and getting to experience amazing places like this, it makes it more special being able to do it with her.” And how about spending time with her family following a win?

She has an answer for that as well. “Being able to spend time with my family and just connect back with where I grew up and relax for a couple weeks was really key.” On the other hand, her recent statements come just in time with Henderson looking for the next big thing.

Brooke Henderson and the never-ending grill of golf

Brooke Henderson was on top of the world after winning the 2025 CPKC Women’s Open on Sunday. She beat Australia’s Minjee Lee by one stroke, thanks to some clutch putts and a bit of good luck. This victory wasn’t just any win; it showed us Henderson’s incredible skill under pressure. In fact, if you look at the stats, she had a pretty solid run last week, with an impressive 75% winning percentage when leading or co-leading after 54 holes.

Have an interesting take?

That was the best since 2015. In fact, it was better than golfing greats like Minjee Lee, Ariya Jutanugarn, and Sei Young Kim, who have a 66.7% winning percentage in similar situations. You might think Henderson would take a well-deserved break after such a big win. But instead, she decided to keep the momentum going and headed straight to the 2025 FM Championship at TPC Boston.

“Right after I won on Sunday I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. It was such a huge week for me. I was very busy and just emotionally took a lot out of me,” said Henderson. Still, she was not going to miss out on all the FM Championship fun. “I knew this event was a great event and I was excited to have the opportunity to come play here, so just decided just to try to keep things going.”

Henderson’s determination paid off, and she’s now set to play with some tough competition, including Lee and Nelly Korda. Despite being the lowest-ranked of the trio, Henderson is ready to give it her all and see how far she can go. With her impressive track record – she’s the best closer on the LPGA over the past decade – fans are excited to see what she’ll do next. And, yes, we are, too.
