Back in April 2025, when Garrick Higgo clinched his second PGA Tour title at the Corales Puntacana Championship with a solid 14-under-par finish, it seemed like a turning point for the 26-year-old South African. After four years of steady effort—marked by flashes of brilliance like a third-place finish at the 2022 Sanderson Farms Championship—Higgo had finally reminded the golf world of his potential. But while the trophy and accolades came his way, one thing still hadn’t: a sponsorship deal. Even after the win, Higgo revealed he had no official brand backing him– a rare and puzzling scenario for a two-time champion on the PGA Tour.

However, what Higgo’s second PGA Tour win did get him was an interview with famous golf analyst Dan Rapaport on Dan On Golf. During the conversation, Rapaport noticed that the 26-year-old was wearing a Boston hat. This prompted him to ask, “The Boston hat is out here to stay as well?”  That’s when the PGA Tour pro revealed, “Might as well, yeah. I don’t have any sponsors, so this one is good in the wind,” confirming that he doesn’t have an apparel sponsor yet. That’s what prompted the golf community to raise their voices and help Garrick Higgo get a sponsor. Latest reports reveal that their efforts have been successful!

After a sponsor-less win at the Corales Puntacana Championship, Garrick Higgo showed up in fresh threads — and with a fresh brand partner. In a two-picture official Instagram post made by the brand, you can see Hugo standing grounded mid-swing, unfazed by the rain — his navy ensemble sharp against the greens, topped with a cream cap that leans slightly off-center. In the second, he walks hat-in-hand, hair rain-kissed and untamed, his stare quiet but deliberate, just enough to remind you he’s still in the game.

If this wasn’t impressive enough, Malbon Golf calling the South African lefty “an ideal ambassador as we continue to redefine the game’s boundaries” is even better. But wait, there’s still yet more.

A post shared by Jason Day (@jasondayofficial)

In their words: “We’re excited to welcome Garrick Higgo into the ever-expanding Malbon family. The South African phenom brings his distinctive left-handed power, strategic course management, and competitive edge to our growing roster. Garrick’s meteoric rise through the ranks demonstrates the same bold approach and quiet confidence that defines our brand ethos. His international perspective and commitment to excellence—both on and off the course—make him an ideal ambassador as we continue to redefine the game’s boundaries. Best of luck at the PGA Championship this week, @higgogarrick. #malbongolf #investingolf”

This marks Higgo’s first major appearance in three years — a well-timed return with some serious wardrobe upgrades. And the fit check didn’t go unnoticed.

Just a day later, Jason Day — Malbon’s longtime OG and 2015 PGA champ — posted a collab with Higgo in matching Malbon Golf outfits — black polos, cream trousers, and caps. It wasn’t just a style statement; it was the first clear sign that Higgo had officially joined the Malbon family. The photo, shared on Instagram as a collab post with the brand, captured a grinning Higgo standing beside Day, both of them relaxed and ready. The caption? “Who wore it best @malbongolf? Welcome to the team @higgogarrick 👏” From solo sponsorless wins to coordinated fits with one of golf’s biggest names, Higgo’s week has been one to watch.

What’s your perspective on:

Garrick Higgo finally lands a sponsor—Is this the turning point in his PGA Tour career?

Have an interesting take?

While he may not have attracted sponsors quickly enough, his journey in golf has been quite intriguing. That includes his current association with Jason Day. But Garrick Higgo loved being linked with one legendary golfer who took the time to play with him when he was much younger.

Garrick Higgo’s early life inspiration

Garrick Higgo was only 21 when he first made his appearance in a major. In 2021, the South African won back-to-back tournaments in the DP World Tour to secure a place in the PGA Championship. That earned him a place in the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island for the 2021 PGA Championship. While Phil Mickelson secured a record-breaking win in the tournament to become the oldest player to win a major, a young Higgo also managed to make the cut and finish at T64 in the first major of his career.

However, it wasn’t Mickelson who inspired him to pursue a larger dream. When Higgo was only nine years old, he got the opportunity to play with someone many fans can only dream of. South African legend, Gary Player, was in his vacation home when he came across the young golfer on the course. The 9-time major winner played nine holes with a young Higgo who idolized him growing up. And the story didn’t end there, as Player often wrote letters to him and encouraged him to keep pushing for success.

Speaking about being mentored by the Black Knight, the 26-year-old said, “He always sent me letters when I was young, just encouraging me to keep going. Through all my wins, he has been there and has been a tremendous mentor to have.” 17 years later, Garric Higgo is now seen wearing all the all-black Malbon gear as he plays in another PGA Championship. With his confidence at an all-time high, it won’t be a surprise if the 2-time PGA Tour winner finishes in the top half of the table at Quail Hollow.
