“Delay is the deadliest form of denial,” said C. Northcote Parkinson. Well, if he had endured the PIF-PGA Tour merger story, he would have instead quoted “Delay is death” instead. Any fan who has been closely following the progress of the situation might have developed the strong will and patience of a lifelong Arsenal supporter waiting for their first Champions League title. And the invincible Tiger Woods is on the cusp of it at the moment.

The latest reports suggest that Woods aligned with Donald Trump to develop a blueprint for a proposal. A merger strategy that the 47th POTUS planned to present in Saudi Arabia. A deal that gives the PGA Tour an advantage over LIV Golf while not securing the future of the latter, as reported by Golf Week. We can understand that Scott O’Neil and Yasir Al-Rumayyan would have probably been distraught by the entire situation. But it’s not only they who might have been triggered by the shocking proposal. Eamon Lynch of Golf Week also couldn’t believe the absurd terms that Trump, Woods, and probably Jay Monahan also recommended.

Using his preferred channel of communication, Lynch expressed his outrage with a keyboard. His exact words were, “Trump receives fees from LIV to host tournaments at his golf courses. He aspires to be back in business with the PGA Tour and he’s already working with the DP World Tour, which also stands to benefit from any infusion of Saudi cash through a Tour-PIF deal. No matter how much his involvement is presented as an effort to reunify a divided sport, it’s a self-serving exercise in blatant corruption.” Lynch seems distraught about the President’s involvement in every aspect of the deal. He believes that Trump is driven more by selfish intent than by the betterment of golf, and he wasn’t afraid to admit it.

In fact, when a fan accused him of cowardice, Lynch wasn’t afraid to fight back against the claims. Surprised by the analyst’s remarks, Matt McClintock tweeted, “@eamonlynch you’re a coward and a loser! Let the U.S. leader make the deal with the #PGA and #livgolf. You go back to being a talking head no one listens to!” He reads like an avid follower of President Trump, who also might be following the reporter for golf news. However, what he didn’t expect was to get a swift response from Lynch, turning his message into mockery. Replying directly to McClintock, the Golf Week expert wrote, “Um, this is probably beyond your capacity to grasp, Matty, but it would seem that you listen to me. And I’m grateful for your attention. (laughing emoji)”

Eamon Lynch was clearly amused by the fan’s attempt to slander him. And he didn’t want to give ‘Matty’ an upper hand in the conversation by ignoring his claims. Turning it into a jest was certainly the best route of action, as he not only gave a befitting response, but also TRUMPed any opportunities of a fightback.

Speaking of Trump, how true are Lynch’s claims of the 47th POTUS making bank on all fronts?

What’s your perspective on:

Is Trump's involvement in the PIF-PGA merger a masterstroke or a blatant conflict of interest?

Have an interesting take?

Are Eamon Lynch’s claims about Donald Trump true?

Donald Trump’s involvement with LIV Golf is no secret. The President annually hosts LIV Golf Miami at Trump National Doral ever since the league’s inception. In 2022 and 2023, Trump also hosted LIV Golf Bedminster at Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey. In 2023, LIV Golf also had an event scheduled at Trump National Golf Club in Washington, DC. That makes seven LIV Golf exclusive events in the four seasons of the league. Alternatively, Donald Trump’s close association with Bryson DeChambeau is also common knowledge.

As far as the PGA Tour goes, the POTUS has always been a huge admirer of the American League. Being a leader of the country, he is always in favor of promoting the PGA Tour. It’s no surprise that he is also constantly in touch with Jay Monahan. In fact, the PGA Tour commissioner also paid a visit to the White House to discuss the matter of the merger with the nation’s leader. Moreover, with Tiger Woods dating Trump’s ex-daughter-in-law, the 82-time champion has also become a frequent visitor to the President’s chambers.

Lastly, by hosting the Scottish Championship at Trump International Golf Links in Scotland, Trump is also involved with the DP World Tour. With all three leagues benefitting after the merger is completed, there is no question where Donald Trump’s best interests lie. The question is, would he have been just as involved if he didn’t have any business relations with all three parties?
