Microsoft surprised all Xbox console fans by announcing Marvel’s Blade during the recent Game Awards show. Arguably, no one was expecting this announcement to make its way to this show. Since Bethesda’s Arcane Studios is developing the game, people were expecting Dishonored 3 as their upcoming project. But, it appears that they have taken a much larger IP under their wings.

With a Blade game on its way, fans cannot help but wonder: when will this game launch? Moreover, they are also trying to find out if this game would even make its way to the current generation of Xbox consoles. If rumors are to be believed, it would be a launch title for the next-generation Xbox system and use familiar graphic technology.

Arcane would be using their Dishonored 2 and Deathloop engines for Blade.

Arcane Game’s most recognized title is no doubt Dishonored. That game, in fact, put the development studio in the limelight. Hence, they were fast at developing a bunch of DLCs and then a sequel for them. The game was developed on Unreal Engine 3, though. Eventually, they launched Dishonored 2 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. This game looked much better than its predecessor and used a brand-new game engine called Void.

They continued this with Deathloop, a new stealth action IP. This game also used a Void engine. As a matter of fact, the game looked even better than Dishonored with new-generation features such as ray tracing utilizing the PlayStation 5’s power to the fullest. For those who fell in love with Arcane’s distinctive art style and the visuals, there’s another good news.

It appears Blade will also be developed using the same engine. While fans might have their reservation about Arcane using an engine that’s around 7 years old. It doesn’t seem to be a big worry. Undoubtedly, it would be an updated version of this engine that would take full advantage of newer consoles.

No doubt, Blade would look incredible. But fans are worried about Blade meeting the fate that befell Redfall. That game was the definition of a disaster. It looked bad; it played bad. It was no doubt launched in an incomplete state.

Arcane eventually fixed it, but these kinds of things end up tarnishing a brand’s name. It would be great if Blade got enough development time and became a complete game. People would be ready to compare this game to Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man 2.
