Formula 1 perhaps received its biggest shock of the year in January when Haas announced the sacking of Guenther Steiner. The Italian-American who built the team from the ground up and fit every piece of the puzzle while keeping the boat afloat for 10 long years left the sport shockingly and unexpectedly. He was the heart and the soul of the team, however, sadly did not have any real results to show for his efforts. This was also the primary reason behind his expulsion, or at least what the owner Gene Haas said. Although, how does Guenther Steiner himself look back at his time at Haas? Let’s hear it from the man himself.

Steiner is back home in America and enjoying his time with family and getting a breather away from the frantic sport. He was recently spotted at the Daytona garage by The Athletic’s Jordan Bianchi and when he asked for an update on him, he simply said he was “doing well” while he was evaluating his next step.

When asked to evaluate his life in terms of his output with Haas, he had a very bleak outlook. First, let’s highlight Haas’s highlights in the past 10 years. They scored points on debut in Australia in 2016, secured a maiden pole position in Brazil in 2022, and most importantly a P5 in the Constructors’ Championship in 2018 under Steiner’s leadership. So summarizing, Steiner said, “10 years was too long” and declined to elaborate further.

A sadly disappointing outlook toward a team which was his pet project. However, for now, he has different agendas on hand, which might be more difficult.

Guenther Steiner reveals his plans after departure from Haas

The boss had a massive impact on the team and his absence will definitely hurt the American team, perhaps even financially. However, that is not Steiner’s headache anymore. In fact, he’s heading toward a more difficult task at hand when he heads home despite his 10 years worth of experience as a boss in the circus.

He revealed, “Right now, I want to rest a little. It has been ten very hard years and I have a lot of things to do, there is a lot to sort out at home. I want to spend a good time with my family, my daughter is 14 years old and she asks me for a lot of things. Trying to manage that seems even more difficult than leading a Formula 1 team, so I will be at it for several months.“

Raising young curious children and answering all their questions hoping you’re doing a good job is surely an intimidating task, no one can deny that. Let’s hope he doesn’t have the same outlook after ten years with his children as he has for Haas.
