Last night was not a memorable one for Sir Lewis Hamilton, who suffered a disastrous Q1 exit. The British driver was far from his true form, as he got out-qualified by Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin in the last few seconds of Q1. Hamilton, even struggling to make it to Q2, is a surprise in itself and a rare sight in the sport. The formidable driver looked devastated throughout the interviews as he tried making sense of the situation.

The chassis is not helping Lewis Hamilton

The poor performance is, of course, not solely Hamilton’s own fault. Mercedes W13 has not provided the team with the results that the camp initially expected from it, more so, even failing to give a decent pace. Though Hamilton’s partner George Russell managed a P6 yesterday, it’s simply unbelievable that the world champion was not able to push the car to its limits.

The seven-time world champion controversially lost his world title to Max Verstappen last season. The driver soon went into a social media exile and was rumored to not return to the paddocks ever again. Though certainly, those were rumors, fans believe that after this season Lewis might actually consider leaving the sport altogether.

Mercedes power units have proven to be troublesome, and every customer team working with it has been struggling in the bottom six.

Lewis needs to consider things

While Ferrari and Red Bull engines have clearly done their work, Mercedes seems like a midfielder now. Another fact that will haunt the Silver Arrows’ camp is that the engines after this season will be frozen till the end of the 2025 season. This will give all the more reason for Lewis to seriously consider his future and make a decision.

It’s very hard to believe that the 37-year-old can drive for any other team which is not Mercedes. Hamilton, who initially started his career with McLaren, soon joined Mercedes F1 on their journey to almost a decade-long dominance. Hence, it is hard for fans to find Lewis in any other chassis that will not display the iconic sliver.

The current scenario, however, might force the Briton to brainstorm all possibilities. Moreover, a quick reminder: Hamilton will turn 40 by the time 2025 arrives.
