Recently, Daniel Ricciardo probably met one of his youngest fans. This young F1 fan and Ricciardo shared a story from his Red Bull days. Especially an incident in the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix. An incident that is fresh in Daniel’s and this young fan’s memory. A tough day for the Australian, as he recalled while talking to the fan.

Daniel Ricciardo meets a young super-fan

Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, Ricciardo appeared on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. And there Daniel met a fan backstage and chatted with him for a bit. This young fan named Alakhe is only SIX years old. Let that sink in!

While talking to Daniel, he brought up an incident from the 2016 Miami Grand Prix. Ricciardo was leading the race but because of Red Bull‘s error; he lost his position to Lewis Hamilton. Who eventually won the race.

During the conversation, young Alakhe recalls, “Somebody called him in and the tires weren’t ready. You were just sitting there.” to which Ricciardo replied, “Waiting”. The Honey Badger instantly recalled the year as Alakhe started talking about the race.

He said, “Yes, 2016! That was a dark day.” Summing his race up. The six-year-old YouTuber brought up some old painful memories for Ricciardo. As the Monaco race still haunts the Australian. And he recalled the incident in an instance.

However, it took Ricciardo a couple of years to clinch victory at the Circuit de Monaco.

Monaco GP redemption for Ricciardo

Ricciardo finally put the Monaco nightmare behind him in 2018. The Australian, similarly to 2016, started the race on pole. As all drivers like to do in Monaco, because of the difficulty in overtaking on a street track.

And after his pit stop, Ricciardo faced a power unit issue that was not resolved throughout the race. Daniel won the race regardless to make up for the disastrous race in 2016 ahead of Sebastian Vettel in his Ferrari.
