The 2022 F1 season is barely a couple of weeks away and everyone is looking forward to seeing how the new cars will fare. Mercedes engineers recently opened up about their Challenger. The German team’s mechanics talked about their brand new car for the 2022 season. Two top engineers from the defending champions explained the changes that were made to their new challenger.

In a video released by the official Mercedes AMG F1’s Twitter handle, two engineers give away the sneak peek of their W13. The engineers as seen are two British internationals, Hywel Thomas and Mike Elliott.
"When you look at what we have got here, everything right from the tip of the nose all the way to the back of the car is new. The only bits that have carried over are things like the steering wheel and pedals." 😮

Taking about the car, Hywel Thomas said, “When I look at it, from my knowledge and expert’s view I see the front wing completely different. I see huge changes in the side-pods, and then look at that rear wing. That’s just completely different.”
“I guess front wing’s pretty much driven by the regulations and the same goes for the rear wing. I guess when you look at the side-pods, there you go. A big chunk of work is going to go to get that cooling in a more efficient way. And then you know the work we’ve done in the layout of the exhaust and the cooling system of the car, you know,” Mike Elliott explained.
Mercedes to dominate 2022 yet again?
Lando Norris has stated Mercedes is in a very strong position this season. According to the Briton, if a car is that good in testing, it’ll be even better on race days.

Mercedes launched the F1-W13 as their official challenger for the 2022 season. Even though they picked up back-to-back eight constructors’ championship trophy last year, the dent in their dominance was obvious. Red Bull posed a serious threat to them in 2021.

For the first time in the Turbo-Hybrid era, Red Bull Racing gave the defending Constructors’ Champions a run for their money. Nevertheless, Mercedes managed to keep hold of their P1 position in the constructors’ standings last year. It’ll be interesting to see if they can repeat their dominance in the seasons to come.
