Red Bull and Mercedes fought each other to the bitter end in the 2021 season. Everyone had feared that their intense 2021 battle would prove costly for them going into 2022.

Red Bull advisor Marko gives an update on their 2022 developments

As reported by GPFans, Formula One will introduce a new generation of cars from the 2022 season. The drastic change would see cars that will be better for racing and will have bigger tires. F1 will also use synthetic fuel from the next season, which is a part of their sustainability goal.

Marko believes that the team will compete at the front again unless some team comes in with an extraordinary development to their car.

“At the moment, we think we are almost on par with Mercedes. The engine will also change a lot (synthetic fuel). That is a drastic change. We believe that we are both in front again unless someone manages a golden shot like with the double diffuser.” said Marko.

He also mentioned that the new world champion Max Verstappen has driven the 2022 car in the simulator.

“Max drove in the simulator in between. He can drive a car that is relatively unstable in the rear, for him the car has to be as fast as possible. It doesn’t have to be comfortable,” said Marko.

Let us hope that the intense battle in the 2021 season did not affect Red Bull’s preparations for the 2022 season. It would be a shame to not see Red Bull and Mercedes fighting at the top of the sport. But will there be a third challenger in the mix? Can Ferrari or Mclaren be suddenly thrown in the mix? What are your predictions for the 2022 season?
