In what has to be the most unprecedented qualifying result of the season, it’s a Mercedes front-row lockout for the Mexican GP.  While Hamilton was shocked, so were fans, as Red Bull lost what could have been their front row to a last-minute incident in Q3. Obviously disappointed, Christian Horner didn’t shy away from pointing fingers.

In an interview with SkySports, Red Bull boss Christian Horner made a harsh statement. “I think we got Tsunoda-ed.” Replays of the incident show Yuki Tsunoda going off the track ahead of Perez; the Mexican, distracted by the Alpha Tauri’s movement, went off track as well.

This lead Max Verstappen, now pole contender, to believe that the yellow flags will be out. But they weren’t. And having backed off because of it, Verstappen lost a potential pole start. What was disappointing for the Milton Keynes team was that both their drivers were in the run for pole position; they now start on the second row.

Tsunoda driving for the sister Red Bull team may have to face Horner’s wrath in some time. Till then, as his post-quali tweet read: “Nothing I can do more than that…”

Red Bull is up for a big race tomorrow

Not the results Red Bull expected or wanted this weekend, considering they were confident in their setup. Even in the practice sessions, Red Bull showed the better pace. Regardless, it’s now time for the Bulls to charge on Sunday.

Horner revealed that although both the Red Bull drivers aren’t happy with the incident, there’s still hope for the race. “It’s disappointing because it affected both the drivers and they are both pretty annoyed. But we’re still second row of the grid and can have a great race from there.”

Sergio Perez was the race favorite and Verstappen was the championship favorite. The Mexicans have their expectations pinned on their toros. Despite the final results, the Red Bull cars had solid form in the middle and final sectors of the circuit. If things go perfectly for the team, it could be their win for the taking.

As Sunday draws near, the F1 season has managed to keep us on our toes once again. Will the race results be as unexpected as the qualifying, or will Red Bull fight for what’s theirs?
