Lewis Hamilton is a man who gives back to his community and not just monetarily. Hamilton has invested his time and energy in the betterment of the community. And the Briton never stops his services towards the community while inspiring others along the way. And that is exactly what IWC with the Mercedes men have done with their Big Pilot’s watch editions.

International Watch Company (or IWC) collaborated with the Mercedes man and his team boss, Toto Wolff, to raise money. IWC, the luxury watch brand, started a charitable initiative for Hamilton and Mercedes’ charity, Ignite. The initiative saw the watchmakers auction the last of the IWC Toto Wolff edition watch. The online auction hosted by Bonhams was tremendously successful.

Mercedes boss Wolff has been long associated with the brand and the watch celebrates Wolff’s achievements. The 100th piece of the limited Toto Wolff edition watch raised about $192,500.

The considerable amount raised by the online auction is immense for Hamilton’s charity. This is a prime example of Hamilton’s efforts to give back to the community. And this is just one of many examples of that. Hamilton and Mercedes’ effort through Ignite focuses especially on promoting diversity in motorsport.

Currently, Lewis Hamilton is the only black driver in F1. And the lack of diversity in the sport stuck out to Hamilton. To understand the reasons behind this lack 0f inclusivity, Hamilton funded a study at the Hamilton Commission, which birth to the Ignite charity which promotes inclusivity and diversity in motorsports.

Speaking about the charity, Hamilton said, “Mercedes have long supported my ambition to improve diversity and inclusion within the motorsport industry. I am so thrilled that, through Ignite, we are able to formally work together to achieve this.”

Hamilton’s efforts might reap fruit in the short term. However, charities like Ignite are paving the way for a better and more diverse future of motorsports.
