Jenson Button is a Formula 1 World Champion. Arguably, there’s no greater privilege than that in the motorsport. Moreover, he does share the distinct experience of being teammates with two of the greatest drivers this sport has ever seen. He has now opened up about one major difference he noticed between Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.

Jenson Button partnered Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso at McLaren. However, in his time with both of them, he realized they operated in very different ways. On an episode of Nico Rosberg’s podcast, he detailed these differences.
While talking about Hamilton, Button said, “He would always find the lap times.”
Hinting at Lewis Hamilton being a “straightforward teammate” over Fernando Alonso, Button explained, “Whereas, Fernando would play games, a lot more.”
He went on, “We played a lot of games, some of them I don’t want to mention too much.”.
This is not the only time when the former World Champion has showered praise on the 7-time World Champion. Button has consistently expressed that Lewis Hamilton is a class above the rest. Even now, he believes that Hamilton is better than Max Verstappen.

Jenson Button partnered with Lewis Hamilton at McLaren. Being on opposite sides of the same garage means that Button knows Hamilton inside out. Hence, when he speaks about why he feels Hamilton is better than reigning champion Max Verstappen, there might be some truth to it.

While talking about why he feels Hamilton is a better driver than Max Verstappen, he said, “When you look at Lewis, you think he is a much more complete racing driver with a lot more experience, maybe that’s why.”
He explained, “[Is Verstappen the most] naturally gifted? Yes. Is he the best? I don’t know if he’s the best driver that has ever lived or the best in F1 now.”
