For the longest time, Carlos Sainz was the only hope to bring the championship back to Spain. However, after Aston Martin’s incredible jump in performance, there has been a shift in the power dynamic. The two-time world champion Fernando Alonso has become the fan favorite once again. Most would’ve assumed the baton has been passed to Sainz but Alonso is proving he is not ready to give up the limelight just yet. This power struggle to become Spain’s No. 1 driver could spark a civil war and fans are already seeing signs.

For the second race weekend in a row, there two Spanish drivers got too close for comfort during the race. In Australia, Sainz paid for his contact with Alonso dearly. The Spaniard received a five-second penalty which pushed him out of the points.

In the sprint race in Baku, Alonso felt Sainz pushed him again. The Spaniard, as reported by formularacers on Twitter, believed the incident during the race from Sainz should earn Alonso a place in the final standings.

“We’ll see if we can take P5, because Sainz pushed me against the wall. It was a bit… surprising,” confessed Alonso.

However, this confession from Alonso turned the fans against him. In fact, the fans called the Spaniard out for making a scene out of an incident that was just hard racing.

The Spaniard complained about an incident where he felt the Ferrari man did not leave him enough space. However, the evidence photo evidence posted in the Tweet showcases Sainz left enough room for Alonso.

This is exactly why fans were quick to jump on Sainz’s defense and ridicule the claims of the Aston Martin man.

Some fans pointed out how this is what the sport and the fans consider hard and fair racing.

While some correlated this incident to the incident between Max Verstappen and George Russell.

However, most fans saw this incident as the stepping stone to one scenario: A Spanish civil war.
