Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff have been part of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team since 2013 and have had an extremely successful run. Toto Wolff is not just the team principal of Mercedes, but is the CEO and has a stake in the team as well.

However, during their introduction for Netflix’s Drive to Survive (DTS), the pair did not know the full name of the team. A hilarious compilation showed both Hamilton and Wolff forgetting the team’s full name. Only the former driver and now Alfa Romeo man Valtteri Bottas recalled the correct name.

The sight of the CEO of Mercedes and the most successful driver struggling to recall the team’s name was hilarious. The introduction started with Hamilton. “I’m Lewis Hamilton and I race for Mercedes-Benz,” said Hamilton before asking, “Sh*t, is that what it is?” Here, the Brit got the reply, “Just say Mercedes-AMG.”

Toto Wolff was in the same category as Hamilton. In his introduction, he said, “My name is Toto Wolff. I’m the team principal of the Mercedes….” Subsequently, he interrupted himself and asked in his native tongue, German, “How do I say it?” Only Bottas got the name right during his introduction as he said Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport in its entirety.

The Finn could’ve gotten the cue after Hamilton and Wolff embarrassed themselves on the camera, but we will never know.

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ strategy is difficult to emulate

Last season, Mercedes took a bold step with their power units to catch Red Bull and incurred multiple grid penalties. Now Ferrari finds themselves in a similar situation, with two of their power units already up in smokes after just eight races. Ferrari will try to emulate Mercedes’s 2021 strategy which saw them make a comeback and win the constructors’ championship.

However, Ferrari cannot convince the fans that they can emulate the strategy with Charles Leclerc. The difference could be the driver behind the single-seater. Not taking anything away from Leclerc’s quality, but Lewis Hamilton is a seven-time world champion.

Implementing another team’s tried and tested strategy with different drivers might not yield the same result for the Maranello-based team. Either way, as Ferrari is convinced this is the only way, it will be interesting to see how it plays out.
