Sebastian Vettel had had a mediocre season in 2021. He joined the Aston Martin Cognizant team at the beginning of the year after their successful 2020 season. But the 2021 regulations changes have hit the team hard. This meant that they did not have a very competitive car on most weekends.

But the four-time world champion used his experience to get P2 in Baku and Hungary. Recently, he finished a well-managed P7 in Mexico. But Vettel mentioned he is not happy finishing in the midfield and getting a few points.

I got used to winning and being at the front: Sebastian Vettel

As reported by Planetf1, the German driver mentioned he is not used to finishing P8, P9, or P10. He also stated that finishing so low is not the reason he is still in Formula One.

“The satisfaction when you cross the line just doesn’t feel the same,” said Seb Vettel.

“Once you’ve won a race and been on the podium and you’ve got this massive boost from the fans afterward and, in a way, confirmation… Now you race and you get an eighth or 10th place and you feel you’ve done a really good race, no mistakes, but it’s 10th, it’s ninth, it’s eighth, it’s not really what I’m here for.

Maybe I’m spoiled. I got used to winning and being at the front.” said the Aston Martin driver.

Although the results might now show it but he has looked like his former self a few times this year. He was ever so close to winning the first race with the team in Hungary before the disqualification. Was it not for a slow top in Budapest, the German driver would have led the race and maybe managed the fuel from then on.

He has shown more consistency with the team than his teammate. But he would hope that with new cars next season, he can make his way back and fight amongst the big boys again.
