Ever since Lewis Hamilton suffered the heartbreaking championship defeat to Max Verstappen in 2021, there have been plentiful rumors about the seven-time world champion retiring from Formula One. However, neither Hamilton nor his team boss, Toto Wolff, has let such theories flare up as the pair would soon shun them with sound statements.

Well, the trend seems to be never-ending, as another rumor bloomed out of nowhere earlier this month; With Hamilton’s contract lasting only until the end of 2023, there have been questions over his future with the Silver Arrows. What’s more, by the start of 2024, the Briton will turn 39 years old, which only adds more uncertainty to his prospects of staying in F1.

Now, just to add a bit of context to the rumor, reports suggested that Mercedes had already held talks with Sergio Perez over possibly replacing Hamilton. But, we’ve got good news for the nervy Hamilton fans amid the retirement buzz. The rumors are not true, as Wolff, in a recent interview, quashed them with a revelation that the knight could remain a Mercedes driver for another decade from now.

Wolff’s latest statement on potential Lewis Hamilton retirement

According to Express, the Austrian revealed that the Perez-Hamilton theories are absolute ‘bullsh*t’ and further clarified the Briton’s retirement deadline.

“It’s complete b******. I’ve never called Sergio. He’s a good guy and I respect him. But I’ve never talked to him and haven’t been in contact with any other rider,” he said.

“Lewis and I, even in the face of a less encouraging scenario like the start of this season, we are always aligned in wanting to try to improve things and in wanting to be together next year. And for a couple of months, we have been telling each other that we could go on, maybe five or 10 years, right? So none of this is true.”
