Romain Grosjean found himself back in a Formula 1 seat when he tested the Mercedes at the French GP. However, despite his star rocketing IndyCar success, the driver may find himself in F1 again. Thus his position as test driver continues. Grosjean had tested for Mercedes in 2021 at Paul Ricard; Wolff had made him a promise in the wake of his crash in Bahrain. Now, it looks like the offer is prolonged. “Mercedes is keen to do it, I am keen to do it, even though my neck will be dying because I’ve lost part of the muscle there… But yes, we still want to do it, and if it happens, great.”

The last time Romain Grosjean sat in a Mercedes F1 car

Grosjean’s F1 career came to an end by a life-threatening crash in Bahrain in 2020. He had later said that he’d wish to drive an F1 car for one last time. And there stood Toto, the Genie in the bottle. To grant Grosjean his wish, Wolff arranged a demo run of their 2019 car for Grosjean.

The gesture from the team was hearty. Complete with the Brackley jumpsuit, Grosjean had his final run in an F1 car filled with good memories. Wolff had said, “If we are allowed to do this and nobody else within his universe of teams that he raced would provide him with such an opportunity, we would do this.”

Therefore, it looks like Grosjean may possibly find himself behind a 2022 F1 car. While it’s always impressive to see Grosjean behind the wheel of an F1 car, his IndyCar career has been glorious. Double the delight!
